If shaitan is locked up during ramadan…then howcome we still commit sins during ramadan?
good question…but i guess he trains us for 11 months and we are used to it…and to give up something for one month that you’ve been doing for 11 months, i think it’s kind of hard cuz you are used to it ![]()
The devils (shayatin) being locked up at the onset of Ramadhan can have three possible meanings:
That all devils of every kind are locked up. This is understood from hadith in Sahih al-Bukhari (3:123) and Sahih Muslim (2:2361) which say, "The devils are chained." However, the meaning of these hadith may be restricted by other hadith (as below).
That only the more rebellious and major devils and jinn are locked up. This can be understood from a hadith in Sunan an-Nasa'i (4:129) and al-Bayhaqi's Shu'ab al-Iman (#3600) which says, "The rebellious (maradatu) devils are chained." Also in Sunan al-Tirmidhi (#549) which says, "The devils are chained and the rebellious jinn." This type of devil is mentioned in the Qur'an (37:7). These two hadith seem to restrict the general meaning of the aforementioned hadith in Bukhari and Muslim. If so, this means that not every devil is fettered, only a certain type.
A less popular view is that the chaining of the devils was specific to the time of the Prophet (s) only, particularly during Ramadhan which is when the Qur'an was sent down. Al-Mundhiri (d.656H) mentions this in his at-Targhib wa at-Tarhib (2:1466), citing al-Halimi.
And Allah Most High knows best.

Shaitans are allowed till the end of time to try and lead us astray.. Allah doesn't mention any breaks during the month of Ramazan... so don't let your guards down.
I have always understood from the above mentioned Hadiths that those who strive to keep their guard up, find it easier to do so in Ramadan! It's not always Shaita'an who makes us go astray, Also, if one is indulged in sin long enough, it becomes his/her second nature & they will not need any provocation.
Surah Al Nas talks about "evil whisperings of the sneaking whisperer" (a prime motive of Shait'an) from among "Jin" and "Humans". Though we don't see any men being shackled during Ramadan.
