i don’t know if this has been posted here before or not…
i had a chance to watch this show last night and this particular episode was dealt with a topic " simplicity(sadigee) in normal life". I am sure you all must have the idea about this show so i won’t get in to that detail. What i felt about this show and the episode in particular was that is was a wastage of commercial time and the topic was so general that if you ask 10 people about it they would all have thei own point of view. They talked about different things going on in the society specially karachi like having a lavish life style, cell phones, cars specially leasing one and other stuff.
i think that mostly people that are educated enough and like most were in that show knew that these things are there to make the lives easy and to help us in our day to day lives. I agree that there are people who like showing off these things but who cares about them… then they said that it is the behaviour of those people that are making the lives of ordinary people difficult and driving the poverty rate upward with making simple things expensive and bringing more fancy things in to the category of regular ones. The problem is most people don’t understand the utility of these things or either they have so much time to spare that they come on these shows to discuss stuff in public.
I liked the idea of the show however this particular topic did not deserve the commercial time spent… mys sister like the show and was telling me that they took the issue of kids going abroad for further education and they invited parents with kids abroad and in local institutions to discuss the topic…now thats little better i would say. I am sure they can bring more constructive topics to be discussed on public television if they want to.
what do u guys think…
I ahve seen the show but not this episode. here are my thoughts on shows like these
1) done properly they can be a very good national dialogue and discussion on issues, cultural and societal phenomena etc, done poorly they can become brain rot shouting matches
2) topics need to really be worthwhile, and they should keep them either granular enough that targeted discussion can take place with some common themes and some outcomes at the end...or if it is going to be a very broad topic, break it down into addressable segments that are done over a period of a few episodes.
now for the view of ppl themselves
it amazes me how in pakistan ppl always blame the keeping up with joneses complex on the upper class, abay let them do what they want, do what you can do.
Fraudia: yes you are very right...... i have always noted that people are more willing to adress their point of view without even listening to the other person and that when things get out of hands or they run out of the arguments they turn the whole thing in to a religious matter...like in this episode one guy when ran out with some point kept saying ISLAM mein saadgee ka hukam hai....like i said i personally don't like the behas mubahissa and i said to my sister that how could they even comunicate and be on TV with all of them shouting like that.
I have personally seen general discussions turning in to an argument where everyone would like to prove his or her point in wevery possible manner and when nothing works take it to the ISLAM's way. But unfortunately you will not see politeness in the whole event.
Well atleast with the coming of shows like these hopefully some time our people will get the idea of how to be a part of an open discussion.
TJ: you have gotta be kiding me, she is cute and all but whats up with her hair man :p
shaista is cute having two kids,
