re: Shahid Afridi's Latest Interview / Zardari 'snub'
Afridi was really stupid thinking Zardari will listen to him MORE than he would listen to his crony Butt.
So Afridi is out for at least another 6 months eh? :D

I don't mind him back as a bowler, not as a captain.

He already said he will play under any captaincy
re: Shahid Afridi’s Latest Interview / Zardari ‘snub’
I’d take playing stupid over administrative stupid any day.
we need Afridi in ODI & T20 as Bowling all-rounder. We need Butt for nothing (ok I know technically my sentence is not correct but
)

Re: Shahid Afridi's Latest Interview / Zardari 'snub'
In Sarfraz's eyes, everyone is a javari (or should I say 'javaria'!!!)
At 14:13, Arif Abbasi (ex-PCB head) says 'ignorance is bliss' in response to Sarfraz's yaavian :D
Re: Shahid Afridi's Latest Interview / Zardari 'snub'
Arif Abbasi was so incoherent. He might be drunk. He made Sarfaraz Nawaz look reasonable and logical. Sarfaraz actually had a good advice for Afridi to work it out directly with the board but Afridi idiotically insisted on wanting to come back via media interviews. His sound bite of wanting respect appear hollow after asking to be selected this way. If he has self respect, he should work it out with Ejaz Butt directly.
The most interesting part for me was the disclosure by Sarfaraz that Imran Khan had the same problem of wanting to come back and asked that Zia ul Haq bring him back! Until now I had read only that he had retired because he wanted to go on high and came back only after every one including the then President pleaded with him to come back from retirement,
Re: Shahid Afridi's Latest Interview / Zardari 'snub'
^ I won't take Sarfraz's word for it. Imran Khan had actually announced before the 1987 world cup that he would retire after the event. It had nothing to do with loss to Australia in the semis. He then changed his mind after Australia cancelled (some say because of fear of losing) the tour of Windies and WICB invited Pakistan to play a three test series in 1988 (which we would have won 2-0 had it not been for biased umpiring. As it is the series ended 1-1).
Imran never threw childish tantrums like Afridi or rushed to the media for help every time he had a problem with the board!!
Re: Shahid Afridi's Latest Interview / Zardari 'snub'
I am not saying that Imran was a saint. He was haughty and full of himself, even hot-tempered. He did pick and choose series in his prime but he could afford to do that because he was so good. He was charismatic, led from the front with both bat and ball and could command the respect of his teammates. Imran always relished a challenge. I know of atleast two series (against SLA and NZ) in the 80s from which he withdrew at the last minute (and Miandad took over as stand-in captain) because he felt that the opposition was too weak. New Zealand were touring Pakistan in 1989 minus Hadlee and Imran simply refused to play against them. He was n't wrong though. Under Miandad Pakistan whitewashed NZ 3-0
Afridi on the otherhand is a decent bits and pieces limited overs cricketer at best. He is no Imran or Miandad

If Afridi is happy to play under anybody, why the retirement drama?

He wasn't happy as captain when Waqar was coach because he felt he was having too much of a say in team selection. But why couldn't he play as a player under Waqar.
I believe the fact of the matter is that Afridi is now starting to realise how much he misses the game, and the fanfare is getting to him. Limelight fading. Club cricket is not a way to be recognized for a long time. *He is looking for any excuse to come back. **Before he had issues with the entire board, then it was just Ijaz Butt and Mohammad Ilyas, then it was just Waqar Younis. **He's just come to the realisation that Ijaz Butt ain't going nowhere so he's happy to change his stance on him and Waqar Younis leaving is a good time to walk back in.

After this whole afridi retirement saga, I'm just really fed up with him. I forgave most of the other things like Ball eating, bat waving, pitch tampering etc. But it's all too much. And now he's not even sticking to his guns. Which means he's a liar and a turncoat too. He's so willing to criticise other players and people in order to justify his causes, whether it's selectors, coaches, even players using Farhat for example. He's criticised his players openly in the media too (which doesn't exactly show great captaincy). These are not marks of a captain.** As Sun Tzu would say, it's the general's responsibility to inspire the men, and it's the general who takes blame for the outcome. It was his responsibility for making the strategy, inspiring the men etc. Afridi on the other hand has shoved blame on others repeatedly. When a captain is blaming his players, blaming the board, blaming his coach, he's just not a very good captain.

so you are saying if you good, you can have it your way?
Re: Shahid Afridi's Latest Interview / Zardari 'snub'

I am not justifying it but yeah that's how it is in real life. You command respect with your performances. Both Imran and Miandad were reinstated because they were that good (it must also be said that both behaved with greater maturity than Afridi). Afridi on the otherhand comes across as a drama queen, probably has an exaggerated sense of his own importance, he thought things w'd be fine once Waqar and Ijaz Butt had left, but realising that Butt sahib is not going anywhere, he's now happy to change his stance on everyone. I do not see him returning in the near future or as long as Ijaz Butt is there
