one of the best cricketer who wasted his career. He would have been right in the league of Sobers, Imran and Botham, had he played upto his potential. I won't even rate him as good as Akram, let Alone Imran and Miandad as captain. Yes, in the light of recent catastrophic events in Pak cricket, he has lifted the team, but was still exposed as a tactician (some Miandad, Ganguly, Ponting and Dhoni are famous for) despite of the street smart label.

I beg to differ, if we look at his bowling .. he has been highest wicket taker in the world cup tournment .. its funny when you say didnt play upto his potential .. i mean yh ... he has trouble with batting!! but thts cuz he hasnt been focusing on his batting alot .. his strength is now more towards bowling!! .. and please dont compare him with pontinggggggggggggggg ..... :(

i dont hate afridi.. he actually gained a lot of respect in my eyes with the way he led in the WC.. it was great to see and I honestly was rooting for pak in a lot of games.. i’m just not an afridi fan boy because of his proven past of repetitive blatant cheating.. but hey at least he is not a match fixer (the ICC probe made it obvious that shahid was and is clean)… his post-WC comments have left a sour taste in the mouth but hey i still dont “hate” him..

I brought religion into this. IMO yours and Afirid's attitude towards women is tainted by religion. Most modern religions suppress women in varying degrees - IMO. We don't have to have a detailed discussion on this.. which is why I stopped in my earlier post.
To say that "women should do what they are meant for" implying stay home and cook ..and not play sports.. is a pretty sexist and derogatory comment... IMO. Your opinion is obviously different.

Taliban in Afghanistan were bashed left and right for "oppression of women" and burqa-clad women were shown whenever there was Taliban news, truth is that 'buraq-clad' women still exist in Afghanistan, they have always existed there regardless of who is/was in power. Afridi is from similar culture where women are not supposed to be out from home for work/sports (atleast professionally).

Agreed. My original statement "you are viewing this from the goggles of religion" was meant for Rangoli the poster.. not Afridi. Afridi's comments are probably due to a mixture of cultural and religious views. But you are correct that the oppression of women is not just a religious thing but also a cultural thing... most old cultures are patriarchal and suppress women to some level...some of them moved on to a limit.. some (afghanistani) havent moved on much at all..
Best cricket captain for Pakistan was definitely Imran Khan. This man had grace, gorgeous looks, the adulation, the charisma etc. He basically had the whole package. Who cares about his playboy image, that is seperate from his game and people should not forget that. A lot of young boys looked up to him as an example.
