Shahbaz Sharif on the Move

I also think this is fishy. Nawaz Sharif was CM Punjab then became Prime Minister (1990-1993), and become Prime Minister once again in 1997.

Re: Shahbaz Sharif on the Move

That article is not legally binidng as it was placed in by a Dictator who held the constitution in abayence. Even though I agree with the clause and that nobody should be allowed to be Prime Minister for more than 2 terms, it is legally invalid.

Re: Shahbaz Sharif on the Move

No, its legally bound as its now part of 17 ammendment made by Musharraf with the help of Mulla Diesel and got 6000 kanals in rewardfor the purpose of keeping Pakistan main political figures out of politics. Its not US that no more than 2 terms plus both NS and BB never allowed 5 years complete in any of thier term. But NA and Senate will strike down this fake 17th with 2/3.

Re: Shahbaz Sharif on the Move

In my opinion, its good he is working for people of Punjab but its just for fame and the goodwill for his party which they had lost in Musharaff's period. But its good for our people lalach he sahi kaam tou ho raha hai na..

Re: Shahbaz Sharif on the Move

Another thing alot of politicians have been announced flyover on Murree Road, Rawalpindi including Shahbaz Sharif but nothing in practical. If this historical plan succeed, it will be great achievement of his government. I pray for him and for people of rawalpindi who drive the cars on murree road with the speed of 20 all the day.

Re: Shahbaz Sharif on the Move

Sorry its not. When the constitution is held in Abeyance like when a dictator comes to power, all amendments are invalid. Any college course in law will tell you this. Frankly we should go back to the 1973 constitution and from that text pass through the amendments via Parliament. That is the only legal way to get things done.

Re: Shahbaz Sharif on the Move

I think we need him as the CM of Punjab for ten years because the man has the ability to get things done. I still cannot believe his Murree Road expansion/widening project in his last term and how he pulled that off because it seemed impossible. He also cracks down hard when he finds out about higher officials in something wrong which a lot of senior politicians hesitate to do so.

That's right. It is legally bound. Let's see what happens to the 17th Amendment.

Re: Shahbaz Sharif on the Move

Aalsi, you had no issues when a dictator, who by the way came to power illegally kept extending his term with illegal and illegitimate referendums, bribes etc and wanted to become the maharaja for life.

If this concern about SS becoming a CM for the third was coming from someone else, but when it comes from you, dont expect us to take it seriously.

Re: Shahbaz Sharif on the Move

alhumdulilah
For sure sharif brothers are not super honest and angelic, but i believe they are much better than other options we have right now. and shahbaz's visit to china was a really good step, i believe sindh CM should do same as nwfp and balochistan dont have enough to offer cuz of their safety issues and infrastructure.

and also by developing rawalpindi he is trying to remove the conception ppl have that he is all about lahore.

okay, thanks :k:

As a resident of the twin cities, I second that.

I believe he is devoted person and he is working for whole Punjab but my focus is that traffic proflem is a hurdle for development of rawalpindi specially murree road because the traffic of whole city has the only rout to travell islambad or Saddar, Raja Bazar etc. Let see what happen? Waiting and hope for the best..

Re: Shahbaz Sharif on the Move

My issue with this is that it feeds the anti-punjab sentiments in the country. Yes it is the fault of the other CMs. They aren't doing their job. Maybe cloning should be allowed.....

Administration of District Headquarters Hospital claimed that it would start providing free of cost dialysis facility to all kidney patients at the hospital from next week.

On the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif, the provincial health department had announced during August that the facility of dialysis would be provided free of cost to kidney patients at all teaching hospitals and district headquarters hospitals throughout province, however, arrangements for dialysis could not be made here at the DHQ Hospital as yet.

“The DHQ Hospital did not have dialysis machines at the time of announcement made by the health department as we do not operate Urology department,” said the DHQ Hospital chief Dr Khalid Iqbal Malik while talking to ‘The News’ Tuesday adding the health department has recently provided a grant of Rs4 million to the hospital with which four dialysis machines have been arranged.

He claimed that the facility would be available free of cost to patients from next week. “I have already asked the health department to provide us sufficient staff to run the dialysis centre smoothly,” said Dr Malik adding Associate Professor of Nephrology would head the dialysis centre.

To a query, he said the hospital needs at least four medical officers, four technicians and 12 other members including nurses and paramedical staff to run the dialysis centre round the clock. “Initially, we would provide the dialysis facility with the help of existing staff at the hospital.”

Average cost of a dialysis at a government setup is estimated Rs2,400 per patient including cost of disposables and medicines and a patient suffering from kidney failure has to undergo eight dialysis a month.

No mercy for fake drug dealers: CM

Wednesday, November 26, 2008
By Our Correspondent

PUNJAB Chief Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said the elements, poisoning innocent citizens in the name of medicines, deserve no mercy, as they are engaged in a ruthless and unpardonable act. He said those who were involved in the business of spurious medicines were enemies of humanity and needed deterrent punishment. He said three special task forces had been constituted in the province for curbing spurious medicines while drug testing laboratory at Multan would start functioning within next five days.

He was presiding over a joint meeting of Regional Task Forces on Spurious Medicines at Chief Minister’s Secretariat on Tuesday. Members Punjab Assembly Dr. Saeed Elahi, Dr. Asad Ashraf, Pir Ashraf Rasool, Major Abdur Rehman Rana, Tanvir Aslam Malik, Tahir Sindhu, Khurram Ali Khan, Dr. Farrukh Javed, Akhtar Malik, Asif Manzoor Mohal as well as Divisional Commissioners, Executive District Officers (Health), senior officers of the concerned departments and representatives of pharmaceutical companies were present.

The chief minister said that during his last tenure, he had almost eliminated the heinous trade of spurious medicines but it had taken roots during the last eight years. He said the people were dying of bogus medicines which was intolerable and this evil business should immediately be stopped.

He said that keeping in view the seriousness of the issue, he had constituted three task forces instead of two. He said the Chairman of the Task Force for Southern Punjab would be Dr. Farrukh Javed, Dr. Saeed Elahi for Central

Punjab while Tanvir Aslam Malik would be the head of the Task Force for Northern Punjab. He said these task forces would have to put up even better performance than the last tenure of his government so that people could be rid of this scourge. He said all Divisional Commissioners, Members of Task Force and departments concerned should play an active role in this noble cause. He said the concerned departments should move forward without any fear against the elements engaged in this evil business. The chief minister further said the performance of the concerned departments with regard to the elimination of dengue virus and polio had been unsatisfactory but they should remember that life of any citizen was dear to him. He issued a final warning to the concerned departments to serve humanity with sincerity and commitment. He said the negligent officials would not be spared.

He said hard working and honest judges would be appointed in drug courts. He said the task forces would hold a meeting with Secretary Health on weekly basis while he would himself preside over a meeting of task forces on monthly basis. He issued instructions for the completion of drug testing lab in Rawalpindi as early as possible along with Multan. He said the businessmen, manufacturing and selling quality medicines, needed not to fear from this campaign and such companies and individuals had every right to continue their business. He said the pharmaceutical companies, having good repute, should help the government and pinpoint the black sheep involved in this business.

He also issued instructions for monitoring the efficiency of drug inspectors. He directed the Chairmen of Task Forces and Divisional Commissioners to give due publicity to this campaign in newspapers and hold special seminars in all districts and constitute sub-committees for this purpose.
