THE ‘BADSHAH’ AND HIS BEGUM

Shahrukh was 19 when he first met fourteen year old Gauri Chibber at a party. They started out as friends - playing badminton, swimming and eating out together. Gradually friendship developed into love, and soon Shahrukh was compiling History notes for Gauri despite being a student of Economics.

As Gauri herself puts it, " It all seems like a dream, like I’ve known him forever. It happened so young and gradual that we didn’t think for a moment that we would not get married." Like any other relationship, their’s had its share of hiccups as well. Gauri broke up with Shahrukh for a short while as he began to get too possessive of her. Fortunately, the man with those '‘drown in them brown’ eyes managed to convince her of his love and the two were wed on October 25th, 1991.

However, the road to marital bliss was not easy. Gauri’s parents condemned the relationship and her mother even threatened suicide. But somehow, Shahrukh managed to win her family over. The Khans had a typical Hindu wedding as well as a court marriage. Shahrukh rode on a horse, an elephant and even danced the entire one kilometre stretch to the venue. His only complaint about the occasion was regarding the gifts the couple received - Shahrukh wanted computer games, instead they got a lot of crystal.

HOW ABOUT THAT ?

Did you know that Shahrukh’s parents first met under the most unusual circumstances? Injured in an accident, his mother needed blood. His father who happened to be at the hospital at that time willingly donated his own - and in the process relinquished his heart as well.

Did you know that Shahrukh’s family had an oil business in Delhi, which was flourishing. But after his mother’s death, things went downhill.

Shahrukh Khan has received the President’s Award as well as 8 Filmfare awards during the span of his career.

FROM ‘FAUJI’ TO GENERAL KHAN

Shahrukh’s film career started when he moved to Mumbai in 1989. His first T.V serial was 'Fauji 'and soon young girls all over India were swooning over Abhimanyu.

Next came 'Circus ’ (produced by Aziz Mirza), followed by a serial where he played a Sikh (turban et al ). 'Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman ', 'Dil Ashna Hai ’ and 'Chamatkar ’ were the first three films that Shahrukh signed.

It was only when ‘Deewana’ entered Indian theatres that ‘Shahrukhmania’ started.

Unafraid of experimenting, Shahrukh even undertook negative roles in ‘Baazigar’ and ‘Darr’. ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’, ‘Dil to Paagal Hai’, ‘Yes Boss’ and 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai ’ were just some of the films instrumental in catapulting Shahrukh to super stardom.
