KP ministers supporting power thieves: Abid Sher
**State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali Wednesday lashed out at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for line losses and pending electricity bills.
Addressing a press conference in Peshawar, Abi Sher Ali accused Khyber Pakhtunkhwa minister of backing power thieves.
“It is easy to stage sit-ins and difficult to show performance,” he said.
Abid Sher Ali said that MPAs including Fazal Elahi, Shah Farman, Ahmad Zari and others have failed to ensure that the people in their constituencies pay their dues to Pesco.
“Around 90% of the users in their constituencies are defaulters,” he said. He further said that PESCO employees were tortured when they visited the areas to make recoveries.
“We will cut those hands now if anyone manhandled our staff again,” the minister warned.
The minister also said that certain areas bordering Peshawar have become no-go locations for Pesco employees who cannot carry on with their work because of security threats.

^ The issue of controlling power thefts needs to be tackled by PESCO which is under the federal government. KPK has asked the federation to change PESCO chief but to no avail, this news item shows that even the chief is involved in theft so how can he stop others?

As usual you did not attempt to follow up on it, so you dont know what the story was behind Abid Sher Ali’s outburst.
90% of the power theft in KPK is because PESCO takes power from KPK registered meter holders, and sells it off under to table to TESCO at flat rates. There is no billing in TESCO under agreement with the federal govt, so they use electricity without refrain, and all their usage is billed to the meters that PESCO is stealing from. As a result, you have poor villagers living in 1 room houses in Nowshera, with nothing more than a bulb and fan in their house, receiving bills of Rs50,000 per month against the electricity that is stolen from their meters.
This theft is conducted by WAPDA itself, and it began during ANP/PPP tenure. There is a reason why Abid Sher hasnt fired the PESCO chief even after his house was raided.

I don't understand what you are saying? Consumers who get Rs: 50,000 bills, why are they quite? Your post does not make any sense. You meant to say before PPP/ANP government there was no TESCO and there was no stealing. What the hack is TESCO? Why can't IK get rid of TESCO?

TESCO is tribal areas electric supply co. Tribal areas get free unlimited electricity from the Pak govt under a decades old deal. However, that is possible only when WAPDA produces surplus electricity. Since we havent had surplus electricity for a long time now, TESCO has not been getting any 'free' electricity. Instead, WAPDA officials have been selling electricity out of KPK meters to TESCO in return for bribes....and those KPK meter holders are bearing the brunt.
Technically, consumers in KPK who get ripped off in this way have 'no argument', because their meters do show consumption of Rs.50,000+ worth of electricity. And when they complain, WAPDA cuts off their meters. These are the consumers that Abid Sher Ali always talks about when he says that more than half of Nowshera residents dont pay electric bills. But he fails to mention that more than half of Nowshera is adjacent to FATA, and PESCO/WAPDA is stealing electricity from Nowshera residents and selling it to FATA under the table.
This theft existed before ANP/PPP as well...but back then, power shortage was not as severe as is has gotten over the past 5-6 years.

TESCO and PESCO are owned by Wapda, and their workers are federal govt employees, not KPK employees. KPK govt has been asking Abid Sher Ali to fire the PESCO chief for the past several months with no result. That is why KPK had offered to take over complete control of power generation and distribution in KPK, so that they could fix the system. But funnily enough, Nawaz Sharif only offered PESCO.

There is a govt in KPK. They have effectively raised this issue with the federal govt many times. IK has raised it himself. The ball is in the federal govts court. If they dont want to remove PESCO chief, KPK govt cannot remove him forcibly. They can only protest, which they are doing.

The way you described working of HESCO, is illegal. IK as MNA should have raised this issue with PM in the NA. But he did not. Why? I was talking about his tsunami and revolution promises, what happened to them? Just keeping quite on this fraud which is affecting the lives of law abiding citizens of KP, do you think he is fulfilling his promises?
