Noted Urdu poet, writer and columnist Shabnam Romani passed away after a protracted illness on Tuesday. He was 80. The real name of Shabnam Romani was Mirza Azeem Baig Chughtai. He was born on December 30, 1928 in Shahjahanpur, India and completed his graduation from the Agra University. His first poetry book, titled ‘Masnavi Sair Karachi’ was published in 1959, while three more collections of his poetry, titled ‘Jazeera’, ‘Tohmat’ and ‘Doosra Himala’ also received critical acclaim. Moreover, his compilations of Naats and Manqabats and a compilation of his literary columns, titled ‘Hyde Park’, have also been published.
