Shabbira banned!

Re: Shabbira banned!

I doubt this line exists in ICC rules and books and is mastered by each and every ICC official...

"tera kya ho ga Kaalia??"

Re: Shabbira banned!

Read what Bob Woolmer has to say on Shabbir and on general “chucking”. Its a long read but does give us arm chair experts a lot of insight. There is no such thing as a chuck or a clean delivery. There is a lot of grey area inbetween.

Re: Shabbira banned!

Woolmer says (in his piece) that there are at least 29 players in the Pakistan's domestic circuit with suspect action.

Pakistan's fast bowling conveyor belt explained !!

Re: Shabbira banned!

i think the ban can be a blessing in a disguise for him, he can work on his action for a full year!! work with the experts, rectify his action, play some matches and then he will have 4 monts to get ready for the world cup!!

Re: Shabbira banned!

… Or he can just take up javeline throwing and bring some medals for Pakistan in the next Asian Games. :dhimpak:

Re: Shabbira banned!

Guess what, in a javelin throwing competition, he will be banned too. This time he will be blamed for “throwing improperly" or for "throwing in a style more compatible to cricket” …poor guy…dunya kissie bee haal may kush nahieen hotiee…

Re: Shabbira banned!

Honestly, I am a bit surprised why Shabbir was never warned about his improper bowling action before he got into international cricket.

Among all the "chuckers" in the world, I consider his action to be most obvious to the naked eye.

Re: Shabbira banned!

^ Fortunately for him, he was cleared twice virtue of biomechanic analysis not the "naked eye".

Woolmer has a strong case and I wouldn't surprised if Shabbit gets another chance.

ICC to take up Shabbir appeal in 3 weeks

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) that it will take up the appeal of Shabbir Ahmed against his one-year ban in 21 days’ time.
A senior PCB official said the ICC conveyed that it would constitute the Bowling Action Review Committee to hear Shabbir’s appeal in 21 days. “The 21-day period expires around January 13. After that I’ll proceed with Shabbir to Dubai for the hearing,” said Saleem Altaf, Director cricket operations PCB.
Shabbir has been banned for one year from international cricket by the governing body for having an illegal bowling action. The ban was imposed after Shabbir was reported twice in the year for his action, first in the West Indies in May and finally after the first Test against England in Multan last month. After consulting Board officials, Shabbir has lodged an appeal against the ban.
Altaf said for the time being the Board had cleared Shabbir to play in domestic cricket, saying, “We have no objections to him playing domestic matches; in fact we prefer that he starts having a second look at his action and try to see if he can remove the defects pointed out to him by experts.”
Shabbir, 29, who is employed by National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), has not played any match of the Patron’s Trophy this season despite being released by the Board from the Pakistan team after the second Test against England in Faisalabad in the last week of November.
Altaf said there was nothing wrong if Shabbir played domestic cricket, as it would help the PCB make quite a few decisions on the basis of feedback it got about his action. “We don’t want to make him feel that the Board is not supporting him. But if he has got a problem with his action it has to be sorted out if he wants to continue playing international cricket,” he noted.
Altaf didn’t rule out the possibility of Shabbir being sent to bowling and biomechanical experts before the appeal hearing for work on his action. Shabbir has taken 52 wickets in 10 Tests he has played for Pakistan.
