Shabbir Ahmed has been reported for illegal action several times and the PCB has been supporting him throughout and send him to Australia etc to get help etc.
If he is reported again - is it worth investing in him & sticking with him - after all he is not Wasim Akram or Waqar Younis or most destructive bowler in the world and instead invest in promising bowlers like Najaf Shah & Mohammed Irshad as they are yonger and seem more promising???
Mohammed Sami - again if he is not consistent and not perform, is he also worth sticking with or should some one new to be tried i.e. chaps mentioned above???
C_L, I agree that Shabbir's action looked HORRIBLE and embarassing, I always call him chucker and also was disappointed to see PCB wasting time and money on such bowler BUT SHOCKINGLY, he proved me wrong big time. I won't go into details but have a look at his new action and you will realise what i am talking about.(looks a whole new bowler). Still gets bounce and pin, can bowl consistently at good line and length. Nothing special but definitely worth a spot in the squad of 16.
I agree on Sami though.
He disappointed everyone again and again.
If he gets another chance in this series, it will better be his LAST chance for long long time.
Take wickets in side matches is one thing and taking it on the international level consistently is another. Sami is a very un-lucky bowler but he is not really a bad bowler. He doesnt get enermous movement off the pitch or in the air but he does have the ability to move the ball both ways and that too at a very livley pace. Shabbir on the other hand could be extremley difficult to get away cause of the bounce he gets with his heights. Yes, his action is ugly and he gets reported one more time I think he should be done for good but Sami is someone we need ot stick with, he is relativley young and have a lot of cricket left in him.
^ how much cricket is left in Sami I don't know, but he was a big disappointment to me as after '03 he shown signs of brilliance, now all we see is shades of that brilliance.
i think the entire world would agree, sami is the most unluckiest bowler in cricket history!!! i back sami though i think he tries hard! with the old ball i think he is really deadly, those toe crushers! as for shabbir i think pcb is not stupid and every1 knows that shabbir is an asset thats why they have spent so much time on him!
I haven’t seen Shabbir’s new action, but are you saying he has completely remodeled it this time around? Seems unlikely because he’s had several opportunities to do so. And even if he has, then there’s the possibility that subconsciously he’ll revert back to his old action as time goes by.
Shabbir should be "chucked" out of the team. He is such an obvious thrower. Now if you are going to tell me that the same should be done about Harbhajan, I am fine with it.
We don't want bowlers "bowling" with an unfair advantage and making legitimate bowlers look less talented.
While on the subject, Muralitharan's record should be scraped from the record books.
pakistan needs t find some other good bowlers...sami is a wide bowler..shabbir has been warned from ICC...gul is betta....shoaib is always injured or his bharambazi just does not end....
we pakis need a bolwer with a high speed and swinging ability and his age should be between 20 to 24 and there is no shortage of talent...i agree with the author of the thread..
but i hope these above mentioned bowlers will do their best against england...
Can we please not mention PCB'S prodigal son Sami, when we talk about future Pak pacers. He has been given enugh time to prove his worth and he disappoints time after time. He doesn't use his natural pace to his advantage, goes for way to many runs, hardly takes wickets regularly, top batsmen aren't troubled by him et cetera.
