Nifs-Shabaan (14th Shabaan)
What do you guys know about it?
Is it only deemed important in Indo-Pak area, or do Arabs also know of its importance?

Faisal bhai my arab friends are completely unaware of it so I am assuming its a desi thing.
Shab-e-baraat reminds me of the halway phuljaryaan and patakhay and the fun bachpan k din... :)
Thats what makes me curious. If all that we read about Nisf-Shabaan (Shab-e-Baraat) is from books of ahadith, then why are Arabs totally unfamiliar with the whole thing? ![]()
Faisal Bhai, maybe you should post the Hadiths that talks about it. I do not know for sure but I seriously doubt if it was celebrated during the life time of AnHazoor (saw) and maybe that's why not considered a universal Islamic tradition.
I think except for the fasts everything we do in Shabaan is innovation and even singling out the night of Shabaan for worship does not have basis in authentic Ahadith.
I’m not sure but I think it’s in Shabaan that both my grandmothers would make halwa, kheer and other mithai and say that it’s a time when the Rasool’s (pbut) and Nabi’s (pbut) and the Imam Paak’s (pbut) and other dead relatives come to visit earth and the food are suppose to be like an offering for them but I don’t think that has any basis in authentic sources.
May Allah save us from making innovations in this perfect and complete religion and may He guide us all to the Sirat al-Mustaqeem of Muhammad Mustafa (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Ameen.
Well, I am not too keen on the ritual aspects... the halwa puri, the meethay or the aatishbaazi. These are all extraneous to the discussion.
I am sure I have read a number of ahadeeth in the books about the importance of Shabaan, and we should fast and pray extra in this month. I'll try to see if they are on any online website, and will post them.

I have managed to collect the following ahaadeeth for Lailat-ul-Bir’at so far:
Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, Allah, the Exalted and Glorious looks down on the middle night of Sha’ban and forgives all His creation except two people, the mushahin and the murderer.
Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 1307 - Narrated by Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-'As - Transmitted by Ahmad.
Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, Allah, the Exalted and Glorious looks down on the middle night of Sha’ban and forgives all His creation except a polytheist or one who is mushahin (innovator in religion and out of the main stream of the community.
Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 1306 - Narrated by AbuMusa al-Ash’ari - Transmitted by Ibn Majah
I missed Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) during the night and found him in al-Baqi’. He said: Were you afraid that Allah and His Messenger would deal unjustly with you? I said: Allah’s Messenger, I thought that you had gone to some of your other wives. He (the Prophet) said: Verily Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, comes down to the heaven of the world in the middle night of Sha’ban and forgives sins even more abundant than the hair of the goats of Kalb.
Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 1299 - Narrated by Aisha
three different versions of the same occasion?? which one is correct??
Lailat-ul-Bir'at ---> did you just coin that?? what does it mean??
Laila' = raat
Bir'at = nijaat
PS: dun worry it's not for munkireen-e-hadeeth anyway so dun try to argue :-).. It's for those who tried to find according to ahaadeeth..
Thanks in Anticipation.
PS2: Read hard, it's about same occassion, and there is no contradiction in any version.
PS3: Khatamallah-O-Ala' Qulubehim!
I also wanted to know who coined that term?? when was it first used by whom??
and the texts are up there for everyone to decide whether they are all the same or have differences… for people with supposedly ‘extra-ordinary’ or ‘super-human’ memories.. this is indeed a shoddy job. ![]()

Bro, I read somewhere that this hadith is weak.
