In the first place, we would like to stress that there is nothing authentic that has been established on the authority of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that he held night vigil prayer and fasted during the day of the 15th of Sha`ban.
Responding to the question, Dr. Sano Koutoub Moustapha, professor of jurisprudence and its principles at the International Islamic University, Malaysia, states the following:
Thank you for your question. It is true that there is no authentic hadith which calls upon Muslims to perform special prayers, fasting or special worship in the month of Shaban. Having said this, I shall mention that there is an authentic hadith which states that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to fast most of the month of Shaban and Usamah ibn Zaid asked him why he fasts most of this month. He replied by saying, “It is a month that the people forget about it, it is between Rajab and Ramadan, it is a month in which all deeds are brought to the attention of the Almighty. Therefore, I would like my deeds to be presented to Allah while I am fasting.” (Reported by Al-Bukhari)
According to this hadith, it is strongly recommended to fast in this month as much as we can, while bearing in mind that it is not allowed to fast the whole month. Furthermore, it is strongly recommended to keep imploring the Almighty to bestow upon you good health and enable you to fast the holy month of Ramadan. Moreover, Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, A Senior Lecturer and an Islamic Scholar at the Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, adds:
There are no prescribed rituals of worship to be performed on the 15th of Sha’ban. If there had been any such rituals to be performed, then it would have been stated clearly in the authentic traditions.
Having said this, we cannot stop people from performing nawafil any time; for nawafil are simply optional prayers; no one can stop anyone from performing them any time except those times when prayers are forbidden.
Re: SHAB-E-BARAAT WRITE OR WRONG
AS far as i know..and have heard frm many good scholars that Shab-e-Baraat is a nite..15 shab'an..but its not mentioned in the Quran! **
**About celebrating it..the only way we can do is by praying..reciting Quran...ask for forgiveness..etc.
Re: SHAB-E-BARAAT WRITE OR WRONG
^ Yes, its the 15th of Shaban, Prophet [PBUH] use to keep fast this month (not the whole month) - and like usual he use to pray during the night:
Aswad Ibn Yazeed - reported from Aa'isha (Radhiallaahu Anhu) that the Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) spent his nights in prayer. She said, 'We slept during the first part of the night, then the Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) woke up and prayed. After the prayers, we enjoyed sexual relations if we so desired. When he heard the adhaan (call for morning prayer) he took the ceremonial bath by pouring water over himself. Otherwise, he performed only the ablution (wudhoo). Then he left home to pray in the Mosque.' (Bukhaari)
It is also said: That PBUH informed us that this night is special.
Re: SHAB-E-BARAAT WRITE OR WRONG
Oh i never knew about the fasting...thanks for informing!
Re: SHAB-E-BARAAT WRITE OR WRONG
The hadiths referring to this night are all considered to be weak - there is nothing special about it, and it shouldn't be singled out with special worship. See daleel above.
Re: SHAB-E-BARAAT WRITE OR WRONG
Please don't post your Wahhabi interpretations without a disclaimer. People will assume that it is how the majority practices Islam, which is not correct. Celebrate it, enjoy it and shower in the mercy of Allah. Those of us in the Ahl-us-Sunnah and followers of all four major madhahib mark it with exuberance and also celebrate the birth day of our holy Prophet. Don't buy into the spiritually devoid bakwaas of those who have stripped Islam of its beauty.
Re: SHAB-E-BARAAT WRITE OR WRONG
^ How about you post the correct version backed up with Quran and Sunnah? We'd all be much greatful.
