Shaan vs. National which to use (if there is another please give the name)...

Which brand is the best in terms of spiciness, and enhancing flavor of dish whilst not giving a grainy or overpowering feel to the food.? We have an aunt that goes back and forth from Pakistan and she is always raving about how everybody uses National in Pakistan because its more spicy, then the next time she went she said that everybody there was using Shan because it was more spicy, so she left me confused when she changed her brand in the story… over here abroad we use more of Shan and thats more popular. And please don’t insult the packet masala, I just use a tbs or so to enhance the flavor. :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: Shaan vs. National which to use (if there is another please give the name)...

Shan masala is by far the bestest one ... it has a very distinct aroma and taste that many of the other masala's dont have ...

Re: Shaan vs. National which to use (if there is another please give the name)...

right...but some people like me....don't like shan's distinct 'aroma'......its sometimes too strong and gives a 'bazaari' taste........as opposed to national.....which are milder.....and give 'ghar ka khaana' sort of taste....

but thats my opinion..:D

Re: Shaan vs. National which to use (if there is another please give the name)...

Shaan for meLaziza has to be the worst one out of em all.... Its like a blonde from texas trying out desi cooking for the first time....irkh

Re: Shaan vs. National which to use (if there is another please give the name)...

We use Shan masalas at home. Less is more when you use it.

Re: Shaan vs. National which to use (if there is another please give the name)...

Well for making curries and Kahra'ii , I prefer National ... And Shan for Biryani dishes ....

Re: Shaan vs. National which to use (if there is another please give the name)...

I really dont care. it could be shan/national. but lately i tried lazeeza biryani, and it was ok but not spicy like shan/national.

Re: Shaan vs. National which to use (if there is another please give the name)...

I am tired of shaan, and recently i start nationnational bombay biryani and its better than shaan. I also tried laziza bombay biryani, and it tastes was same as shaan.

Re: Shaan vs. National which to use (if there is another please give the name)...

There is no universal answer to your question. It is matter of personal preference , you try one and the other and based on your taste and your personal preference you settle for one or the other.

Re: Shaan vs. National which to use (if there is another please give the name)...

some batches are more spicier than other.

Re: Shaan vs. National which to use (if there is another please give the name)...

shan biryani, good but shan chat masla chana masla yuk kala kala

Re: Shaan vs. National which to use (if there is another please give the name)…

Shaan masalas

we recently made biryani from national masala and it turned out good :k:

Re: Shaan vs. National which to use (if there is another please give the name)...

I like the National biryani masala best! Shan masala is also fine. Mehran's was awful. Waaaaay too spicy.

Re: Shaan vs. National which to use (if there is another please give the name)...

I prefer National masala over Shan masala.

Re: Shaan vs. National which to use (if there is another please give the name)...

Shaan is the best.

Re: Shaan vs. National which to use (if there is another please give the name)...

My wife also prefers National masalas over Shan. She says Shan is too salty. However, National masalas are in short supply.....at least where I shop in Jackson Heights. Shan seems to be what they stock here.
