Shaadi Dress

Hi Guys,

So i’m trying to finalize my bridal dress order and am slightly overwhelmed. In my head i can see the dress, but can’t seem to find a style or picture to accompany my ideas!

So the designers i’ve narrowed it down to are…

  1. Bunto Kazmi
  2. Nilofer Shahid
  3. HSY

The issue i’m having is, i don’t want an HSY design that looks anything like what’s on the website. What’s the point of wearing something that everyone has seen on the website or in magazines? Also, he’s a little too traditional for me.

With Bunto Kazmi, as amazing as she is, she doesnt let you see the product in advance, and i’m really taking a big chance by letting someone no matter how amazing they are, design my dress. What if i don’t like it? Especially with having particular taste.

With Nilofer Shahid, she doesn’t have any photographs! What i’ve seen of her stuff, its AMAZING, intricate, detailed and timeless.

So here’s what i’m looking for…maybe someone can shed some light!

I’m looking for a chiffon jhora, with long tight sleeves which is classic of Bunto Kazmi, with intricate and delicate embroidery in zardozi silvers, golds and coppers on a burgundy/maroon dress. I want the border to be heavy, but i want the outfit to have work evenly spaced out so the gharara doesn’t look empty and weak. I also want a farshi gharara and a tight bodice on top. I’m wearing an emerald set so at some point i’d like hints of green…but NO christmas tree look!

Can you send along any pictures when you see something that sounds like this! I want the Bunto Kazmi style…with a deep v-neck, long sleeves on chiffon and very fitted, but may not go with her because of her finicky ways!

Thanks

Re: Shaadi Dress

pretty much everything u have described is so bunto-ish. since u have seen the actual end products and liked them so much why wouldnt u just go with her?

IMO and i may be alone on this, HSY sucks... atleast i dont like most of his designs.

and from those three i would pick nilofer shahid, i love her work from all the rest!

but pretty much everything u want is what bunto offers so why dont u check out the bunto kazmi threads for all the pics of the dresses.

Re: Shaadi Dress

sumorani - you're right. i guess i'm trying to stay away from Bunto in fear that my expectations are so high and that she may not live up to them. with nilofer shahid, although she's a household name, i'm not familiar with her and maybe not expecting as much and being pleasantly surprised is less stressful? its all psychology, really LOL.

i may have to call Bunto. it just sucks when you have to call from the states...you get completely different rates and what have you.

i want to see a few examples of nilofer shahid if anyone has any! that would be amazing.

Re: Shaadi Dress

also remember BK’s cuts and embroideries are traditional and sicne u want a farshi gharara, i would definitely recommend BK but i get what u mean about u thinking that she might not live upto expectation. u can check this out and im sure the bridal pics thread has BK designs scattered about it,

The jora you described is quintessentially Bunto:) I have yet to meet a disappointed Bunto bride...the end result is always spectacular.

Re: Shaadi Dress

you get what you pay for... if you're forking out $4000 for a bridal dress, you're going to get quality from someone of bunto/nilofer's calibre. i can't speak for HSY but if you're looking for something classic, i'd give him a miss.

and as others have said, you just described the kind of dress that bunto would do best. in the end, regardless of whom you choose, you MUST trust the designer. bunto would not have the kind of reputation she does for quality and stellar work if she wasn't as good as she is, and you have to trust in her skill set and her experience.
also when you hire a designer as skilled as bunto or nilofer, you have to give them room to breathe and interpret your ideas in a way that works best based on their experience and knowledge. they DO know more than you when it comes to wedding dresses, that's a given, and that's why they're the designer and you're not. and they're also not mental- they're not going to give you something you're going to hate- they know when to listen to your ideas and when to suggest alternatives. that's the luxury of working with someone so skilled.

otherwise, if you have extremely set ideas and know precisely what you want, then you'd be better off going to tariq road, finding a karigar and a tailor, and having them design what you want. you'll compromise on quality definitely, but at least you'd have the exact outfit you envisioned.

Re: Shaadi Dress

^agreed
if your really precise about what you exactly want maybe going to anarkali (lahore) or tariq road karachi wud be the best option - if your willing to let the designers experiment a bit then tht shud work!

Goodluck!

Re: Shaadi Dress

I was talking to my friend and she said Bunto is different from Mrs.Kazmi who was the original designer. Bunto is her daughter in law, right? I loved Mrs.Kazmi's designs coz the colours were put together so well but Bunto sometimes chooses a colour palette that looks a little gaudy in my opinion. I don't like magenta and red together or red, orange and green together. However, nothing beats the fabric and kaam they choose. It's amazing!

Re: Shaadi Dress

afashionistalives I think bunto kazmi is the designer that can cater very well to your needs and demands.

Re: Shaadi Dress

sorry to butt in but does BK make formals?

Re: Shaadi Dress

^yes she does there were pics up I think in the fashion and beauty forum from a fashion show with her formals

Re: Shaadi Dress

Yup BK does formals too. My cousin's wife's valima dress and baree jora's were from bunto. They were all beautiful.

Re: Shaadi Dress

okay, thank you girls. i have to suck it up and go with Bunto. (not that i'm being ungrateful, but slightly fearful) i really don't want to make a mistake on my wedding outfit like anyone else, and when you're really paying the same amount for HSY, Nilofer Shahid and Bunto...you might as well leave that room for her imagination.

so, now having said that, this is what i'm thinking...tell me your thoughts? in the BK thread pictures there's a bride with an orange, biscuit and maroon Bunto dress. there is also a second girl with a biscuit dress with tons of embroidery. let me see if i can attach the pictures...

but, i'm basically looking for the v-neck, long sleeves, chiffon, farshi gharara. i don't want too much jhamevar on the gharara because it can look overpowering and i want more of a smooth, flowing jhora, and a chiffon dupatta. what do you think of these two styles? (sorry i can't attach it, but its this girl with a biscuit long sleeve kameez and her husband is wearing a tux?) the other bride has a groom who's wearing a tanish shirwani.

my set is a polki and emerald set that's in that antique-ish form. the person i'm using is awesome...if anyone is looking for a set...Reveti...they are based out of Palo Alto and can work in any budget.

Re: Shaadi Dress

also, i want to post some pictures of my engagement. how do i do that?

Re: Shaadi Dress

I love chiffons and I have a thing for classic, traditional old world style, farshi gharara. I think it will look beautiful. Kundan, polki and antique jewelry goes very well with these traditional styles. You cannot go wrong my dear.

Re: Shaadi Dress

show bunto a good quality pic of your set - i'm sure it can only help her and you, in getting the style you want, across to her.

Re: Shaadi Dress

thanks girls :). there are clearly some girls on this thread who are more than with it :)
