SGPC declares Bhindranwale a martyr

AMRITSAR: Nineteen years after he was killed in military operation to flush out terrorists from Golden Temple, the SGPC on Friday declared militant leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale as a “martyr”, coinciding with the anniversary of Operation Blue Star.
Akal Takht Jathedar Joginder Singh Vedanti while honouring Bhindranwale as “martyr” gave robe of honour to his son Ishar Singh at Akal Takht.
Bhindranwale was killed on June 6, 1984 during the Operation Blue Star.
Vedanti also “honoured” Manjit Singh, brother and leader of All India Sikh Students Federation Amrik Singh, a close associate of Bhindranwale, who is also believed to have died during the operation.
