Sexual Health Lecture

I’ve been approached by a local Islamlic women’s organization to give a lecture on sexual health. Allah reham karein, lekin, I have to do talk to a bunch of muslim teenage girls who need to know how to protect themselves and avoid getting into a mess.

Can you bright folks please give me some pointers to include in my talk? :bummer:

Re: Sexual Health Lecture

I have done this before but not from a health angle. Just be prepared the source of you information because people ask for reference to a hadith, sunnah or scholar

Questions that I have been asked are

  1. What is permissible and not permissible in sexual relations in Islam.
  2. If one has committed zinnah, what should they do?
  3. Is birth control allowed? Is abortion up to 40 days allowed?
  4. What is idaat?
  5. Lots of lots of questions about periods and what can and can't you do like namaz, roza, read quran etc.
  6. Is waxing, threading allowed and to what extent?
  7. What are a woman's rights when it comes to sexual relationships?
  8. Lots of questions about technology like chatting, texting, IMs if they halal way to communicate with the opposite sex.

Re: Sexual Health Lecture

Wow you guys are awesome! This could turn into a 5 hour course. What you think should be highlighted to girls aged 13-18?

Re: Sexual Health Lecture

difference between shower and Ghusul...like after periods we should have a complete ghusul.

Re: Sexual Health Lecture

wow!! great source of information here.

Re: Sexual Health Lecture

You can touch three basic points

  • Islamic concept of sexuality: physical and emotional changes plus dos and donts

    • Discuss sexual growth
    • Physiology of reproductive system plus physical changes/needs such as menstruation etc
    • Sexually transmitted disease (health as well as the Islamic aspect)
    • how to avoid peer pressure and who to look up to for help (parents, teacher and not friends ??)
    • Islamic concept of adultery: what is adultery and what are the consequences both religious and social
  • Islamic concept of marriage/family: what is the concept and how does it help curing social evils.

Re: Sexual Health Lecture

for teen girls i would say:

  • learning how and when to do Ghusul (after periods and intercourse for example)
  • removal of hair in certain areas (what can be used (eg. razor, wax, cream etc), why and when
  • intercourse (dos and donts)
  • menstruation (dos and donts)

and the topics that njgal mentioned are great.

our masjid has a once a year qiyam for girls of this age. They have a sleepover at the masjid, where teh imam's wife and other older sisters/women have a night program and breakfast. I havent been to one myself, but these topics may have been discusses as well. I think its a great idea.
