My friend told me about this video that was available even online of pakistani college girls and boys being videotaped in a net cafe somewhere in Islamabad. These young couples would come in sooooo many of them after school and go into these small rooms with computers and they would actually make out and in some instances even have sex and they did not know that they were being videotaped. I heard two of those girls killed themselves after their parents saw the video. I dont know how but somehow their parents got a hold of the video. I didn't beleive my friend at first but he lived with other guys a friend of his downloaded it off of the net. And it was clear to me than of what they were doing and I just can't beleive that stuff like this is happening in Pakistan. I couldn't beleive my eyes. Does anyone else know of cases like this one?

And whats wrong with that...in the new dynamics of moderately enlightened Islam, this is all good, pragmatic, productive and creative expression of one's freedoms....

How can ANYONE say where it's worse? Have there been any studies done? Are there any stats? Or are these just your personal biases? One simply can NOT just say it's worse in one place or the other unless some studies are done. So while you keep claiming it's worse in the west, I'll just sink to the same level and say it's obviously worse in the east. In fact, sexual crimes aren't even prosecuted in the east, there, how's that for a generalized statement?

Oh sorry i forgot to provide any stats or studies because i just assumed that we just need COMMON SENSE to realize that sex related problems are more rampant in the west. ( Common sense is so uncommon these days, isn't it???).

Note: This thread is not about "Sexual crimes" as you mentioned above.

For MOST desis (ABCD's) in the west : " It's OK for them to do "WRONG" things because they are living in west but if they see people in Pakistan doing the same thing, their reaction is OMG i can't believe they are doing this in Pakistan. ( Hypocricy is eveywhere isn't it raatkiraani???)

I just love it when us desis become defensive and instead of admitting to a problem, we start comparing ourselves to the West and say at least we’re not as bad. This relativism has been one of the root causes for our hindrances.

Although I've only lived in Pakistan for only three years, I’ve seen enough myself to admit that there’s a problem. In the West at least it’s out in the open, and this makes it easier to distance oneself from the revulsion. On the other hand, in Pakistan, all the abhorrence is veiled and hidden and yet it is so pervasive that you can’t steer clear of it even if you wanted to.

I used to think that Pakistan was a bastion of morality, but when I grew up, and saw things with my own eyes, I realized that the morality of Pakistanis is often times no better than Americans or westerners. Afridi, I hate to burst your bubble, but all this trash is in Pakistan. My point is that it's hidden from plain view, but it's still there.

very well said. and i can relate to it because i have been thru similar experiences. i used to think of pakistan as a very cultured, religious society but after coming across pics of "social events" in visage, daily times, i nearly fell off my chair! i could not believe it was the people of so called paki land engaging in such stuff and SO OPENLY!!!! next was orkut where i got to see an entire clan of kids at all the "high private" schools like kgs, etc, not more than ages of 16, 17 openly drinking, getting wasted, having sex, walking around with minimal clothes, doing drugs and WHAT NOT! its not just the adults, its the kids too! behh.. what kind of example are these adults setting for the next generation anyway.. u know its really sad when u respect ur country so much and pride in being called a paki.. but it all gets thrashed somewhere wen u see ur own country ppl doing this.. the most shocking however, was the article i read once abt the so called high society people and the raging issue of their young kids (aged 11-16) being involved in heavy drug usage, alcohol issues, sex and what not.. and the parents are to be blamed for taking so much pride in all the money they make, all the time they spend at parties that they dont even think twice before handing over the money to kids so they can throw lavish parties, engage in sex, alcohol etc.
when i went to pakistan, it was very easy for ppl there to point fingers and say how corrupt the west is. ok so its open and its their damn culture where parents dont give a darn abt what their kids do or not.. but what abt pakistan?? why are people there going thru this culture crises where all they can do is imitate west thinking how cool it will make them??

uhhh i dont know where exactly u live but since I AM an american muslim, let me tell u that its not TRUE! and pls stop calling us abcds.. i consider it to be derogatory. its soooo easy for u guys to just point fingers at any american muslim and be biased abt how corrupted they must be for being born and brought up in the west. well u wanna know WHY exactly it shocks us to see ppl of our homeland acting this way? because pakistan HAS A REPUTATION of being an ISLAMIC nation. we grow up thinking and honoring our homeland after hearing gazillions of stories from our elders abt how traditions and cultures are followed in pak.. how the ppl are soo decent.. and not to mention, how islam is honored and followed there. its NOT because we consider it to be ok in the west. western nations have a rep for being so out there, dont they? so why should we be shocked? and if u think we consider it to be fine, WE DONT. we have to live here and face these probs each single day. yes there is a section of pakis/muslims that give in to such stuff but ALOT of us have to fight for our imaan and strengthen it because we are surrounded by vulgarity!! ITS JUST SO EASY TO POINT FINGERS, ISNT IT? but all the pakis would never even think once abt how much harder it is for american muslims to survive in such a country. we have masjids for our ppl, we have tons of islamic conventions every year, we have more hijabis than u can imagine. i have taught at various islamic centers and along with my parents, i got to see thousands of other parents who struggle to teach their kids abt islam so they can be better muslims.

shay, I'm also kind of fed up with all the hate towards American Muslims..

You would think in muslim countries it would be easier to follow Islam because for example, if a man is growing a beard people would understand why, unlike here they'll think you're a hippie or something.. but it seems that Muslims in "islamic" countries seem to stigmatize Islam just as well.

^ I really think being Muslim in the west is alot harder than in Pak or another "Islamic" country, just think about it: everything that's haram for us (from sex and dating and what you wear and what you eat) is readily available and encouraged here. It requires a bit of time management to take 5-10 minutes away from work to go and pray, sometimes in front of EVERYONE. Esp during ramadan, it takes alot of will to ignore all the foood around you. In Pak, all restaurants are closed during Ramadan (before iftaar), you hear azaan 5 times a day and shops/businesses will shut down so that they can go pray, regardless of wat you've seen/heard, many women in Pak will cover up , at leastin public..

And yet there are people, born and raised in USA who will pray 5 times a day no matter what, fast, wear hijab (properlY), don't date or have sex or drink or do drugs. It is getting to be very disgusting and annoying seeing people dismiss all American Muslims as being money hungry or not as faithful and "pure" as Pakis.

I don't see how u can ask someone to "prove" this. Uh, do you mind suggesting a way to do it? And to answer your question in a different way, yes, it happens all over the west as we all know it. But it IS happening in pakistan ALSO. and VERY OPENLY. If you're so interested in knowing about what your country mates are upto, why don't you take a tour on orkut.com, visagepk.com and dailytimes.com.pk? It's happening in schools, it's happening at workplaces, social events, EVERYWHERE. Before, it wasn't so openly done but what does it tell you when such a majority of people are doing all this stuff so openly all over pakistan? Uh hello, OBVIOUSLY that's because it's increasing. And even if it's not as bad as it is in the U.S, you can be assured that it will increase more and get worse judging by how fast and openly ppl are doing it.

it is defintely less in Pakistan. as a percentage of total pop vs ppl who are engaged in hanky panky. among desis overseas as a ratio of those doing hanky panky to total population it is more.

The big diff is that abroad is mostly consentual...ppl hooking up. In pakistan its incest, molestation, prostitution, forcing/coercing servants etc.

Non consentual premarital sex and prostution is def higher in Pakistan
