Sex Education made compulsory in the UK for 4 year olds ..

So , its happening . School’s will be making the necessary changes to introduce the new curriculum.

State schools already had it in some form , but indendent and private schools didnt . we can opt out if we like . But this is where its confusing me .

4 year old is effectively a nursery going kid. Are they even bothered about what gender difference is and all the details ?

They say , they will be teaching little kids how to keep themselves safe from harassment etc .

I dont want my child to learn how to protect himself from evil people . but is it too early? opt in or opt out is the question ..

Any opinions on this please ?

If you think you live in a society where your child may never come across a sick person then you shouldn’t, these programs are there because there is a reason for them.

I would certainly opt out at the age of 4. But then again it depends how close of an eye you keep on your kids? If you are with them most of the time, then thats fine, but if not, just tell the kid not to talk to strangers or let grown man/woman get inappropriately physical with them, bully them etc.

I think it all boils down to the amount of parental supervision…these days you should either have a trusted person or yourself or partner overseeing your kid at all times…the world is full of sick people !!!

Yes true . Kids at 4 are very vulnerable , deep in my heart , I want mine to know how to keep himself safe and know and be able to express when he feels danger around a specific person . But at the same time what kills me is when kids know too much ahead of time .

Example , one of the nursery teachers was telling me about her daughter who is in year 1, or 6 year old as we put it , and , she already has had discussions about how she wants to get married to this boy in her class !!! It might sound funny to some , but I just cant bear the fact that the kid is actually even thinking about relationships and boys and what not !
