Sewing Shalwar kameez

Salamz all.

Has nyone self taught themselves how to sew shalwar kameeze’s.? I have decided to learn myself since i can find no courses in my area.

Does nyone have ny tips or hints that they can share 2 help me along the way.

yup yup. just that i don't cut the kapra...my mum knows how to do that. but my advice..start with cotton. it's easier to handle. and buy the clothes that you get in teh scrap bin...start with something simple...so in the case you screw up somewhere...ur not wasting a kapra that is like $10/meter. also, get a template cut from a professional...it helps a lot. and if ur sewing for your self...know your own body. cuz the darzi style, atleast for me, is really messed up.

Ditto to what khumar said. Also my mother started me on smaller, baby sized clothes first to get the neckline right etc.

take apart a suit that you are not using.......use it for a template for cutting.

Best way is to take apart a child's suit.....like 4 or 5 year old's. Once you get the idea of what to cut how and what to sew together when, you will be able to do your own.

I started off with baby clothes:) My daaddi Jaan use to cut it out and i use to sew. I on my own cut and sew my nephew (Ahmed's) lil shawar kameez. It was not perfect but very adorable!

Start with cotton cloths like other says,there was agood website in khawateen journal,name selayai and there she told how to atke measurment of a dress,start with shelwar its easy to sticha nd then come on shirt.in shirt u have to make neckline first ,then stch the shoulders together, then do fitting of shirt ,then attach the arms of the shirt and in the end u ahve to stich the slits and daman.
i start stiching when i was in FA my phopo told me,but cutting she did by herself,then my mother inlaw and now last year i start cutting too,i stich kurta of my daughter from my old lawn dopatta which was not used and looks new,and my daughter wear it with jeans in home in summer and its looks great,anyway its cutting was not perfect but not bad.
unstich(udhairna) ur old shirt and see hows it stiched u can get help from it.

Cotton fabric is best for beginners and take apart a suit that you don't wear anymore and use that as a template.

I want to learn how to make short kurti and Patiala shahi shalwar...the one with extra large ghera and loads of pletes...does any one know how to sew them???

I am def gonna learn when i go back to pak.With my size changing all the time, its such a hassle running after the tailor.
