Severe lower back pain after c-section

Hi…I need some help please, I had a baby 6 months ago via c section and my lower back pain seems to be getting worse now. I have a doctor’s appointment in couple of weeks but I can’t take the pain anymore. Did anyone else go through this? A little bit of my medical history: i had complete placenta previa so I was on bed rest for most of my pregnancy and right after my c section I couldn’t move my left arm and left leg for 2 days. The doctors thought that the spinal may have entered my left arm somehow. I had a very hard time during my recovery and I thought after 6 months I should be back to normal but now its worse than ever before…sometimes its so severe that i physically can’t move until someone massages my back for couple of minutes then i’m back to normal…is this normal?

Re: Severe lower back pain after c-section

I am assuming you received spinal block for anesthesia.

You should definitely get it checked out because the spinal block you received before the c section could have caused you to have a pinched nerve or something along those lines. The anesthesiologist have to be super careful and good at it because its such a risky area. Go get it checked out ASAP!

I have a doctors appointment in a week but is there anything i can do now to make it better?

Re: Severe lower back pain after c-section

pain medications would be the only thing i can think of... i'm sorry you're in pain :/

Re: Severe lower back pain after c-section

Pain medications mostlikely will not help. Ask your doctor to schedule you in for a lumbar region (lower spine) MRI. It is safe and very effective. A regular x-ray will not be able to determine if you have a slipped disc or if your disc is pinching your nerve. The MRI will show what the exact issue is (muscle, tissue, discs, etc.).

I dealt with severe back issues for most of the past year and I had a natural delivery! I had my boy 3 years ago, but the pain started around when he turned 2 and my back finally gave out a few months soon after.

For the time being, put an ice pack on your back and keep it on there for no more than 15 minutes at a time. It will help with the pain. Do this regularly.

Re: Severe lower back pain after c-section

I raveler back pain that travels through my legs since 20 weeks of pregnancy.. I was on pain medication during the last few weeks of pregnancy due to severe pain causing sleep deprivation! I had c section, the pain didn't go away, my pcp sent me to the specialist, had a lumbar MRI that showed disc herniation, swollen sacro iliac joint but the specialist seems to think it's so something ,ore than that n I have to go back for more tests n other specialists! See your doc soon .. It could be anything like sacro iliac pain or nerve compression! Hopefully it will go away soon!

I take ibuprofen for pain relief..not the regular one but the one that was prescribed after cessation..it's just higher dose!

Re: Severe lower back pain after c-section

Be careful with those ibuprofen or any kinds of NSAIDs...as they are known to cause ulcers and stomach bleeds if taken for long time.
