hmm so u went after $$$. I would rather go for less money and more peace of mind.. engineering jobs pay less but are more satisfying professionally..

I did not go for $$$. But I was disatisfied in the position I was in and you could blame the $ partly for that. As in any other jobs, the motivational factors are not just financial however there is a fine balance there, since below a certain dollar amount it becomes more of a necessasity rather and luxuary. You also have to realize what people benchmark themselves againsts and what thier goals are. If you were to compare the above with a teachers salary it would be way better but then if your goal was to be much richer and your comparison group of people are doing way better then you, you can get unmotivated rather quickly.

What I meant though was that for group of people who built the basic infrastructure of the countries, they sure dont get very appreciated.

first of all they are govt jobs, which always pay less. Second they are for an engineering trainee position, i.e. very entry level. There are those who have done well in engineering whether it is environmental or electrical. Biggest factors would be motivation and opportunity.

As far as comparing it to teacher's salaries. Ever seen how much urban schools teachers make in cities like detroit? :) Even in decent burbs, teachers with undergrads start close to these numbers.

My dad is a Sr. Civil Engineer for a large company in the area.

Being a civil engineer I checked with that site .. they dont sponsor and I have H-1 B visa..

yeah the note did not say that they sponsored or not. Degas if you are looking for opportunities I had heardthat Black and Veatch in kansas City, as well as Harza Engineering in Chicago were looking for civil engineers just recently.

Degas,
Have you tried CDM and Parsons Engineering. They both have pretty big civil engineering practices and I believe sponser the right candidate. Though with most Civil engineering companies its harder because of thier smaller margins. What area in civil engineering are you looking for and how much experience and education level? Also do you have a P.E.? I may have a couple of contacts elsewhere.

Thnx guys I would certainly contact u both when I need to change job.. I already have a h1-b visa with a small company and would change job after some time..
