I was talking to an Afro/Caribbean Seventh Day Adventist dude today and he was telling me about his religious beleifs and how like us they’re not allowed to eat pork… Got me curious, was wondering how else are they different from other churches? I could google but that takes more effort on my part.
Re: Seventh Day Adventist's
From what I remember, Seventh Day Adventists are protestants that believe in some old Jewish traditions, but also in the Divinity of Jesus. Hence, their Sabbath is Friday thru Saturday, and they dont eat pork, like the Jews. They are somewhat similar to Messianic Jews, in this regard.

Re: Seventh Day Adventist's
Some background:
Archbishop Ussher calculated (using the Dan.8v14) that Christ would return in 1843. William Miller, a Baptist minister, took it further and stated October 22 1844 to be the day. People sold everything and waited for something to happen to no avail. Hiran Edson on the day after the disappointment received a "spiritual revelation" which explained to him that they misunderstood the meaning of Dan.8v14.
When Ellen G White joined the Adventist movement in 1844 when she was 17. She started to get "visions" from December 1844 onward as to how the Bible should be interpreted. She went on to write down all her "revelations".
Adventists hold to Ellen G White's revelations/prophecies. Wherever any interpretation of Bible parts differ with Ellen's, Adventists will always rather accept her interpretation. Some differences with mainstream Protestants are:
- Soul-sleep after death
- No eternal torment (Hell)
- Keeps the Sabbath as the Jews keep it
- Refrain from eating certain articles
- Believe they are the only Remnant as per Rev.12v17
- Christ had a sinful nature (not official claim)
- Ellen G White as prophetess
In general I find them earnest, good people with a strict way of observing their religious beliefs. I don't consider them a wrong Christian sect in the way I consider Jehovas, Mormons, Scientology, etc. If only they will more away from Ellen G White's "revelations"......
