Setting up a business in USA

If you had a million US $, and wanted to invest in a business either on the East Coast or the West Coast, what would it be?

Considering that:

  1. You are a Pakistani citizen.
  2. You don’t have permanent residence status in US, and would most likely visit on business visa.
  3. You have previously lived in the US for around 4 years for studies.
  4. You are doing it with the goal to get settled there and get permanent residence status.
  5. You have a business here in Pakistan in software development, and have a few small size clients from the US.
  6. You are open to investing in / purchasing a running business OR setting up a new one.
  7. You are open to working in industries other than software / IT.

Would really appreciate honest input and advice.

Regards.

Re: Setting up a business in USA

Consult an immigration attorney in America first…they’re are different categories of investor visas, depending on rural/urban areas and how many employees the business will maintain etc…

Due diligence is key!

Start a construction company, buy a truck do construction work make $$$. Buy all the property in your town back home. BOOYAHKASAH American dream!

Re: Setting up a business in USA

Make a list what needs to be done first

Ask lawyer about business visas how long can you stay or how you will get permanent residency on business visa. Then you have to do research what kind of business you are interested in, restaurant, gas station, construction business, IT business, and which area is best. East coast or West coast, in West coast Northern Cali has lot of people and in East most businesses can work. It all depends what idea are you bringing on table.

Re: Setting up a business in USA

You can always invest in the Reha Designer Purse Fund…lots of duas in return which of course you can never put a price tag on so its obviously a great investment! Just kiddinnggg. As khatti said, please consult with an attorney before you make any moves.

Re: Setting up a business in USA

Thank you @khattichic. I know about the different categories for investor visas. But what is the best way to contact to a dependable immigration attorney, and not someone that is a fraud?

Would be grateful if anyone could refer an immigration attorney,

Re: Setting up a business in USA

if you invest a million $ in the US, you would qualify for permanent residence status under the EB-5 category. half of that amount, if your investment is in certain regions.

Re: Setting up a business in USA

Thank you for the reply @queer. Yes, thats what I have found out from the US Immigration website. However, there are no details as to what are those certain regions where $500k would suffice as investment amount.

Also, there is a list on that website that provides names of potential investment vehicles for this purpose. I am not sure whether these are dependable companies or not. Something like this: Promote regional job growth and build stronger urban communities » California Golden Fund

Setting up a business in USA

U can contact a really good attorney that I know. he has helped a lotta people migrate from Punjab-Pak. His name is Garry Davis. His no is 214-628-9888. He’s based out of Dallas,Texas. U can ask around about his background if u know anybody in the Dallas area. I’m sure u will get real good recommendations for him. Hope that helps

You can send this by PM. I think you should remove name # immediately. I am not axmod but this violates some privacy policy I think.

Re: Setting up a business in USA

The attorney that Resham mentioned above is indeed very well known and has a pretty good track record from what I’ve heard (I’m from Dallas as well).

Re: Setting up a business in USA

Thank you resham & khattichic. Its good to have a starting point at least.

I might be visiting the US next month, and would try to meet this lawyer. I am going to be in the New York region though so better find someone there also.
