u know someone sent me this seti thing before. . its a screensaver that does all these computations rite? but i removed it from my computer
what is the purpose of seti.. and what are the computations for?
well. here is the description i've copied off their page
SETI, or the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence, is a scientific effort aiming to determine if there is intelligent life out in the universe. There are many methods that SETI scientific teams use to search for extraterrestrial intelligence. Many of these search billions of radio frequencies that flood the universe, looking for another civilization that might be transmitting a radio signal. Other SETI teams search by looking for signals in pulses of light emanating from the stars.
so you sign up, install the program and let it run in the background all the time or you can keep it as a screen saver.it doesn't put a lot of load on the computer. it downloads a chunk of info from the seti servers and then uploads the results. it keeps track of all sort of stats. you can attribute your results to an affiliation (by country, school, group, whatever .. i'm under pakistan)
so thats basically it. i've been signed up like for almost 2 yrs now.. there is no reason not to sign up for this.
pakistan is ranked 94 (last time i checked)in the countries list, which i think is a bit low.

ya.. i had it on my pc too.. i just never knew what it did.. but got bored of the screensaver and removed it.. maybe i will install it again sometime.

I had the thing, but found it useless and deleted it. Just like there is no reason not to have it, there is no reason to have it. Its just there...
