What are some good easy to configure server replication software for Windows. I need to replicate both W2k and W2K3 servers over WAN.
I’ve had enough issues with CA BrightStor High Availability to give up on this thing…it is truly a POS.
Thanks.

Re: Server Replication Software
EMC RepliStor is probably the best product in the market.
Re: Server Replication Software
I was just on thier site before I saw your response.
Have you used it? Is it easy to configure for replication over WAN?
Re: Server Replication Software
Yes it is easier to configure, few clicks literally and the install and admin guides are very helpful in step by step configuration or customization.
Re: Server Replication Software
What are you trying to replicate between the servers? I’ve setup XOSoft’s WANSync in a test virtual environment and it worked great, but never did get to implement it. I was trying to replicate Exchange 2003 and possibly MS SQL. Here’s their site:

Re: Server Replication Software
Just want to start off with replicating simple folders/files for now.
I'm done with CA. They are horrible. I've wasted enough time and money on thier BrightStor sh!t.
I called EMC and the guy just took all my information and said someone will call me back. It's been a while and I havent' heard back. Very frustrating when I have to meet a deadline to get this done.
Re: Server Replication Software
If its just files and folders you don’t need anything extensive. You can either use Robocopy, which comes with the Windows Resource Kit, or use something simple like Idem. You can also use Distributed File Sharing (DFS) on your domain if you have users working out of the different location.
Once you start going system/application replication is when you need all those high-tech apps and routing protocols (BrightStor needs something called the floating subnet). That’s when the fun begins. ![]()
PS: I’m getting a de ja vous-ish kinda feeling from this thread. Didn’t you start a similar thread last year? Or was it someone else?
Re: Server Replication Software
OK, will check out Robocopy and Idem. Not sure if they do real time replication, but I’ll look into it.
I don’t have a need for DFS.
That was me ![]()

That was me :(
They don't do real time replication, just scheduled intervals. Real-time would be too resource intensive.
Re: Server Replication Software
I guess I can live with that for now.
Any form of replication is better than no replication.
