Serious moves for meat import from India

it is a good move by pakistan to import things that are short supply from
neighboring country instead of paying extra money by importing from
thousands of miles and it should be extended to other items like drugs.

The Karachi Chamber of Commerce has brought out a report on trade with India in which it says that if trade between the two countries by the land route is permitted, they can save $2 billion annually in the cost of transportation.

Thats a lot of money. It is more than bush's grant to pakistan.

it is a win win situation for both the countries. i hope it works out.

how does bjp feel about this?

Why would they have an opinion on this in particular? Most Indians eat meat.

not cows anyway. would we only import chickens?

ravage, you are in the US. why'd you import cows from india?

ravage, for you to know, even USA imports "cow" meat from india.
after the mad cow thing, the meat export from india got a big boost.
Do some research man before posting...

hey dont get so defensive. i do not mean to flame here. i never claimed to be aware of Indian beef export policies, merely assumed that if folks there were intent on worshipping Cows and didnt eat beef for that reason (which most Hindus i know avoid) they wouldnt export it elsewhere for other people to eat.

afaik bjp is the party that opened those cow rehabilitation centers equipped with state of the art bottling facilities. im reasonably certain if they are consistent with their policies, they'd think khuda to khuda hay chahay may khaoon ya tum.

Like Pakistan, meat in India means Chicken and Mutton for the most parts.

Beef is unlikely to be exported due to the fact that there is not much produced anyway, let alone the religious complications.

you're wrong there. most of the consumption of meat in pakistan is of beef because its more affordable.

india exports buffalo meat as "beef" from what I know in addition to cow meat which is labelled as just meat at times, although atleast until a few years ago export of beef (cow meatr not buffalo) carried heavy fines.

On the other hand, whatever india can title its meat, what is beef in US or europe, just cow meat or doesit include buffalo etc?

is buffalo the same thing as katta? i think its a bit sneered upon as cheap, tough beef.

although its considered to be really good by some due to its lower fat content

Pork is the most popular meat in the world. According to USDA’s statistics 43% of the world’s total meat consumption is pork followed by 27% of poultry, 26% of beef and 4% of others

india can probably do well by meeting some of the pork demand in the world, i doubt any is being exported to Pakistan

^^ Yeah any proposal on that would quickly destroy the peace process. :D

Ravage - I stand corrected on the beef part.

Re: Serious moves for meat import from India

Pakisan imports drugs from India and it is one of the highest imported items from India.

^ i thought we imported drugs from afghanistan :)

Yearly thousands of cattles (mainly cows) are moved illegaly from India to Pakistan in order to fulfill Pakistan's needs for beef. Border patrol people from both the countries are involved with the smugglers. So I believe there is nothing wrong in it, if its legalized.

We do not need to import meat from India, instead we need to promote our own meat industry. It has potential to earn Billions for Pakistan.

In gulf Pakistani meat is becoming very popular over last one year,it is chaeper and of much better quality than Indian meat.I see even the Indians buying Pakistani meat here in gulf.

Large scake trade with India is only going to hurt us.India being much larger country and much cheaper labor, can afford to sunsidise its exports and destroy our products.
