Series of blasts rock Bangladesh
DHAKA: Near simultaneous explosions on Wednesday rocked various parts of Bangladesh, including capital Dhaka, injuring at least 25 people, reports said.
The explosions were reported in 36 out of the 64 districts in the country, official sources said, adding three persons have been arrested in southern Bangladesh for their suspected involvement in the bombings.
The exact number of explosions were not immediately known. The bombings took place mainly at government offices, press clubs and courts. The affected areas included southwestern Khulna city, northeastern Sylhet city and Munshiganj district.
In Dhaka, about a dozen apparently homemade bombs exploded near the airport, at court buildings and in markets.
The explosions occurred between 11am (local time) and 11:30 am.
Leaflets of the banned Islamic outfit Jamaatul Mujahedin, Bangladesh, led by the so-called “Bangla Bhai” were found in some of the areas where the bombs exploded, the sources said.
Bangla Bhai is on the run after his group was banned last year.
