Sequence of events

Hello,

I am unaware of the sequence events are supposed to take place in a Pakistani wedding in America/Canada?

I know some of the customs in western pakistani weddings are much different then the ones back home in Pakistan. I know it depends on the families, etc but what is the typical layout?

We have Nikkah
ring exchange
cake cutting
speeches
dances (on baraat)
first dance, etc

Re: Sequence of events

During a reception? AFAIK, there is not set sequence for a wedding reception. It is decided based on how best to accomodate everyone, according to each individual situation.

Girl's family get to the hall first to welcome the baraat. Traditions follow, stop the groom at the door to demand money/throw petals/offer the grooms side with something made of flowers like a garland, kangan, whatever.

Next, people like to opt for Nikah and get it done right away, if the couple is not nikahfied already. Reasons being: you can start serving the appetizer, and the couple can get the photoshoot done.

After that, you can get your party started with the ring exchange, offering gifts, family pictures, introducing spouse to your bari chachi ki chacheli ammi ki bhanji ki amreeka wali nand.
