Asalamakikum i have a question i would like to ask i know someone who has been separated from her husband for 8 years now after these eight years he wants to get back together with his wife
Now the question is in islam r they still legally married ?

you mean after divorce ?? if yes then NO, they dont have any kind of relation left...

but if No, then they are still married in Islam...

Nai they r not divorced just separated hakuna

As far as they are not divorced, there isn't a problem.

If they were only separated then yes they can. Though re-nikah is not necessary, but good to have that done, however mahr would remain the same. No new mahr is required.
