Which services do you recommend? DHL or FedEx or something else? I got the rates from both sites and they are pretty much in the same range for a 3 lbs package. I’m assuming since these are global companies they’d be reliable in terms of package delivery, recovery etc. I won’t mind paying a little extra as insurance to the value.

I have sent packages in past using USPS and they have receieved them in a range of 2-3 weeks.. I always get the insurance as well, it costs only about $5-$10 but atleast it's insured and guaranteed.
Also, they have special discount prices for sending books so if it's something like that you shoul let them know about it.

Don't use the post office. Fedex and DHL are fine. I've noticed that anytime you send a package to Pakistan via the post office, it takes forever or it never shows up.

You can use the regular USPS, or UPS (it has offices in Pakistan now), both will be cheaper than FedEx (ignore that TV ad saying the opposite), and it's a myth that USPS packages don't arrive or arrive late. Last one I sent got delivered in 11 days for 17 bucks!

Depends on what you send. I still don't trust the Pakistani post office. We sent a package with a few leftover phone cards and some clothes. The box had been opened, the phone cards removed, and some of the clothes taken.

USPS sucks, had one bad experience with it and never used it since. FedEx is the best. UPS would also be a safe bet since it has several outlets in Pakistan.
