Heres the best way of transferring money that I know of. Open an account in Habib Bank AG Zurich in UK, and a Sterling account in Habib Bank AG Zurich in Pakistan. Deposit money in your UK account, and then you can either make a direct remittance to your Pakistani account, or you can write a check and deposit that in your pakistani account. There are no fees charged, and you can withdraw from your Pak account in sterlings if you want to. The check clearing can take 2-4 weeks though.

Hope this helps.

Best way to send money to Pakistan from the UK (other than hondi, which I do not agee with) is to send through United National Bank.

website:

http://www.unbankltd.com/

You can pay the money into any Natwest branch and then send the form to the United National bank by post. The money will be deposited in the account of your choice free of charge- there is no fee for this service. I used this service myself a couple of months ago when I sent a large amount to pakistan to buy a plot of land !! Very good service with no problems.

thanks!

UBL all the way. You can do it online too. You can directly debit your checking account in the US and put money in a UBL account in Pakistan within 24 hours, and this service is totally FREE. The exchange rate was quite nice too. And their maximum limits are the most generous, and they increase it the same day when you apply. I called them to verify and they had excellent phone service, and I was connected to a guy right away, who was knowledgable, pulled the record on the screen right away and helped resolve the question very quickly. 10 out of 10.

If you want to get reward points for using your credit card, then it costs some extra percentage. I didn’t bother with that.

WesternUnion charges $39 bucks for transferring $999. MoneyGram has too much lamba chora security verification procedure, plus they were slower and more expensive compared to UBL.

^ Can you explain how does it work?

I mean, does the person in Pakistan has to have a UBL account and so do you?

I don't need to have a UBL account in US. But it helps if the person in Pakistan has a UBL account (as that will make the transfer quicker).

You go on their website, and register. Then give information about your checking account here in the US, tell them the account information for the person in Pakistan, and specify the amount. The remittance is transferred to the UBL account in Pakistain within 24 hours.

If the other person in Pakistan, doesn't have a UBL account, then they can either mail them a draft or transfer to another account too, I think. I didn't try it, cz the person to whom I was sending money had a local UBL account. Plus, how hard it is to open a Pak Rupee account in a UBL close to your home in Pakistan.

And it’s FREE as in EF ARR DOUBLE E right? Or hidden charges … maybe in Pakistan? :hoonh:

i've used 786pk.com three times. worked fine for me. the money got to my LOCAL VILLAGE bank (muslim commercial) in 3 days. they give you a lower exchange rate - maybe about $1 less than the usual, but works out the same as paying any bank to wire money. just saves you a trip to the bank.

There are no hidden charges. Money gets trasnferred to the specified UBL accout in Pakistan. The downside is that unlike WU or MoneyGram where the money is transferred in minutes, UBL’s process takes about 24 hours. So if you transfer money before 2 pm on Monday, it will be available in the account in Pakistan on Wednesday morning.

They gave me the exchange rate of 57.6675. The open market rate was about 58.9 in Pakistan. Although, ofcourse, unless you are transferring a very large amount, the difference in rate would cause minimal loss. Plus, UBL’s rate was still better than what Western Union and MoneyGram were suggesting.

I have not done it, but I am pretty sure UBL also allows transfer of money into a UBL dollar account in Pakistan. However, in that case they charge a fee ($50 for $5000 transferred). Although, if you are transferring a big enough amount, the fee will be less than the loss on exchange rate difference (assuming the folks can get the open market rate in Pakistan when selling the dollars).

Try www.moneybookers.com

for this u need in both UK & Pakistan a bank account ..... but the fees are quite low

Just send an envelope with a relatve who is going.

You'll know someone going every month. :D
