Senate Polls

Senate polls are being held today, and two news basically have caught my eyes regarding them.

  1. Ch Nisar alleges that massive rigging is taking place in the elections (horse trading is being done on a massive scale)

  2. A PMLN MPA from Punjab has resigned as PMLN has asked their members to show their votes before casting…

Senate polls: Forced to show ballot, PML-N MPA resigns
When will our political process mature so that every one can freely cast their votes in Senate polls?

Re: Senate Polls

Elections on 50 seats have been conducted today, and the results should start pouring in shortly...

Re: Senate Polls

After polls
Toothless tiger, flailing tsunami and everything in between

Re: Senate Polls

Congratulations to people's party

Re: Senate Polls

Noway without a new social and regional contract .

Re: Senate Polls

People's party is leading in 7 seats from sindh and 6 from Punjab, where as pmln will be getting 4 from Punjab. Big win for ppp this!

Re: Senate Polls

It seems Establishment is with PPP :hmmm:

Re: Senate Polls

its not the question of our political system being mature, its a question of politiicians being sincere, loyal to the country and its ppls…but as shown in news votes has been purchased, saled…there’s being
bargaining bw politicians for senate seats…they are ready to amplay some retrictions against meida before elections so no rigging shell be reported…its like chooroon ka tola nothing more then that..:naraz:

Re: Senate Polls

Dont worry these are all small steps for the PPP and the current elite in power... the big leap will come later Insha Allah there are only two ways this will end.

A real and fair general election that significantly changes the current political status...

Or (And I pray fervently things dont come to this) There will be much blood and violence either by a millitary coup or a civillian uprising the water is at boiling point and the tide has come to crash right up to the very threshold of our nations struts.

Re: Senate Polls

this man is funny…raisani…

Re: Senate Polls

Nothing unexpected, as Senate elections are voted for by MPs, where PPP currently has a 'majority'. However, fact remains that the electoral process is full of flaws, and the MPs who were responsible for voting in the senate elections themselves are the by-product of fake voter lists. Remember, these are the same MPs who selected Zardari as president.

Unless and until voter lists are cleaned up, and election commission is made wholly independent, we will continue to see the same sheet in our parliament and senate.

Re: Senate Polls

Think about future of Ik after this
No way without Zardari .

Re: Senate Polls

I dont think we will achieve both things before the elections:

1) As far as removal of fake votes is concerned EC is treading slowly in the matter, I dont know if they will meet their deadline of May

2) Who will (amongst the rulers) would want to have a fully independent EC?

Re: Senate Polls

Can somebody confirm

Zulfiqar Khosa, who is governor of Punjab is also one of elected senators?

Re: Senate Polls

Yes I have read in some newspaper that he has been elected.

Re: Senate Polls
