DW: Yes, but you must remember this has been magnified hundreds perhaps thousands of times under SEM... the nose is aligned with a sticky substance called the mucous membrane, and tiny hair that you can see on the top of this image... mucous memberane and the tiny hair adhere onto the pollutants and dirt that we breathe in, thus protecting us from infection.
