Selling Land In Pakistan

Hi,

We have inherited 4 miles of land in Pakistan through our grandparents. This land is currently owned by my father and his smaller brother on there names, but is rented out to a distant relative of ours who claims to be maintaining the land and giving us annual amounts.

Throughout the last few years my mums brother who’s profession is a farmer for a number of years and also has experience with many other contacts who do farming claims the amount of money we are getting annually is way below what we should be getting and the person who rents the land and gets the income is keeping 80% of the money and sending us 20% for example.

The Army has come in and wants to buy the land all of it for a good price and have the money all ready. There is an agent in-between who acts for both parties in doing the deal. The Army has paid a deposit and are waiting on us going to Pakistan to sit with the party and conclude the deal.

However my uncle is stalling as we require his signature. He states he wants to see all the details in english in the UK! this is not even available to my father this is the reason why they are going to Pakistan to meet my uncle who knows how these deals work in Pakistan we here dont have a clue how to deal with buying and selling land. The agent knows how to exchange papers and money etc.

The deal is in the balance as my uncle is saying he wants to appoint a lawyer to make sure that all the details are legitimate he thinks Pakistan is corrupt and this maybe a fraud transaction.

Can anyone advise me what the lawyer will check? Does anyone do these kind of deals or have done in the past?

Thanks.

Re: Selling Land In Pakistan

Be careful with the lawyers and everyone else. The lawyers from both parties become secret freinds and ditch their clients.

Re: Selling Land In Pakistan

Lawyers won't help much. Since you are "selling" the land, all you have to make sure is that you get the money. Arrange with buying party to transfer the money to your account and then sign the transfer documents that will be prepared by "middle man" or by buying party.

Perhaps your uncle does not want to sell the land, the only way he can be frauded is if he is paid counterfeit notes.

And the person maintianing your land, ofcourse he will keep 80% that the way it is. I assume the land if farming land, the rent per acre is Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000. So just da the maths if he is paying you this much then its just.
