this might sound like a stupid quesiton but i hope someone can give me the correct answer.
Alcohol is haram so is it not haram to sell it as well>? I thought it was haram but now some people say its allowed to make a living??
Please enlighten me
thank you in advance
khuda hafiz
Yes siankuri, its haraam to sell alcohol, similarly the selling of other things which are not permitted (not halal) in Islam is also haraam.
It's haram. It's no way of making money.
Who says nothing is impossible? I've been doing nothing all my life!
sianikuri this is a big issue. it would be wise to ask a real scholer about this
there's no need to consult a scholar about something so obvious. It is haram. If you sell it and earn a living from it, that money is haram. I've seen this topic being discussed by Islamic scholars themselves.
The only exception will be if you have ABSOLUTELY NO WAY of making money, and its a matter of life and death, only then can you sell it to feed yourself and ur family. And we all know that such situtions are impossible...i mean, of all the things in the world, why would someone sell alcohol???

This is a scholar’s response on the issue…
There is a general principle of the Shariah which applies here which is why the article below also talks about trading in pig skin. However, the issue of trading alcohol is also answered at the same time as an aside.
For your convenience the article has been posted below the link. I hope you find it useful.

Question:
Is it haram to deal in the trade of Pig skins? It is same trade as the trade of Cow Hides. Silly question!! But there is a lot of money in it these days and people need to know. We are forbidden to trade in Wine. Is this not the same? But then dealing in Cowhides when cows were not slaughtered Islamically renders the cows as Haram as the Pig itself, is it? What about wearing Jackets made of Pig Skins? Is it not the same as wearing a perfume containing Alcohol? (Mohammad Uthman Haider)
Reply:
It is held by about all (if not all) the Muslim scholars that dealing in Pig Skin is not permissible. They draw analogy in this case from the prohibition of Alcohol, as you have rightly pointed out.
I do not think that this is a correct analogy. To make my point clear, I would like to give a little explanation.
You see, when the Qur’an prohibited Alcohol, (remember, it was a prohibition regarding the consumption of alcohol, for drinking), there were some Muslims who, following the directives of the Qur’an although had given up drinking but did not think that selling, manufacturing or dealing in alcohol was wrong. The Prophet (May peace & blessings of Allah be upon him) explained to such Muslims that their selling, manufacturing or dealing in alcohol only resulted in its consumption by someone else. Therefore, the Prophet directed them to refrain from even these activities. Now, obviously, this directive of the Prophet refers to refraining from selling, manufacturing or dealing in alcohol, specifically when this selling, manufacturing or dealing relates to alcohol as a drink. On the other hand, this directive of the Prophet would not apply to those cases where alcohol is used for some other purpose. For instance, if alcohol is to be used in some medicine or as an anti-septic, then the stated prohibition would not apply in that case.
By the same token, as the Qur’an prohibited pig meat (for eating), it follows from this directive of the Qur’an that selling, processing or dealing in pig meat, specifically where these activities relate to pig meat as a food item, should not be taken up. But, on the other hand, where parts of a pig’s body are brought under any other use except eating, selling, processing or dealing in such items cannot be termed as “prohibited”.

thank you so much everyone for your input
i was asking on behalf of someone i know who is very much into his religion and preaches it to all the people around him insisting that he is a better muslim than most people but on the same hand he works at a liquor store and sells alcohol when i confronted him on this he claims that it is halaal.
I disagree with him he feeds his family with that money and if he chooses to do this then he should not preach correctness to others.
thank you again
I love alcohol.
Every now and then, pop out a heineken, or a tall glass of merlot.
I think it's all good, as long as you don't get extremely drunk.
Arai.
p.s. Don't drink and Drive.
