selfishness

is one born as a selfish person? Or does society/environment make him a selfish person?

Re: selfishness

depends on what u mean by selfish......
theres diff definitions of selfish in every society i tink
like here, typical western society, someone who lives with his parents well into his twenties and even thirties is considered selfish even if he does give them money and stuff, whereas in pak (or a paki family in the west) if the son or, in less cases, daughter, moved out to be "independent" is considered selfish...if that makes sense...at least that's how it is in my family...
i wanted to make myself happy and do watever it took, even if it hurt my parents in teh process and that's very selfish but it's not the case anymore...i dn't think i'm a selfish person..but selfish is a relative term ...what u may consider to be selfish is just normal for someone else and vice versa

Re: selfishness

i think selfishness most of the time is injected into a person from his/her own family , parents, some time friends. in some cases its reactive.
you will not see many people selfish from a parents who are not selfish. but exceptions are there. but I have seen many selfishness carried over from parents to their kids.

and if they are brought up away from parents under different environment they dont have this personality trait built in them.

so its not society at the whole but the people who interact with that person very closely.

Re: selfishness
