We all know how Pakistanis are being treated in the USA now. Esp those who are not citizens. Not just illegal ones but legal ones too.
And then there’s what happens in Pakistan, like how the traffic cop will pull you to the side and wasoolofy money from you for nothing…or you’ll have to pay the phone lineman money for fixing ur line, etc etc and give rishwat in govt offices for anything to get done etc etc…
My personal opinion is that for some reason you don’t feel THAT bad if it happens to you on your soil and by your own ppl, chalein jee, woh police wala bhee ghareeb tha, isi tarhaan apni family ka peyt paalta ho ga…or something…you don’t feel so insulted…
but then in America..when the police start following you, tapping your phone, monitoring your internet activity, being checked 10 times before you leave on an international flight etc etc…
I’m wondering…for ppl who have experienced both of these…in Pakistan as well as in America…
what hurts you more and which one would you rather bardaasht?
is it true that u would bardaasht more in Pakistan?
or is it true that in America that you can compain more abt thes things where as in pak aap kis ko ja ke kaho ge its the system…?
and is complaining abt this just nakhras? shud a person be prepared for such things to happen to her/him and b ok with it? and not complain abt it coz life is not a bed of roses?
havent gone through any such experience while living here in US, other than that registration thing...which is quite understandable.
while in pakistan, i had been through many of the situations where i had to use some links in order to get something done. But yea, coming all this from our own ppl is more annoying and unfortunate than from aliens!
I think if you are not living in your own country you should be prepared to face any kind of prejudices. Its not your country no matter even if you do become of a citizen of that foreign country. And then by living in a foreign country you are getting alot of benefits that you dont get when u r in pak then you shud also cooperate with the authorities. All of the examples that you gave above are measures taken by the govt for the security of the country. Yes maybe they are a lil too extreme but still if u r living here then well learn to cooperate n compromise.
alhum. I havent experienced any abuse in the USA but Pakistan is another story. I dont live there but the minute anyone sees my face in Pakistan or hears my accent they know I am not from there…
and they try to swindle me.. especially the dukaan walay.
I’m not saying that the USA is perfect, there are many glass ceiling effects that we have to face here but in Pakistan they are so blunt about it… and there is hurts more cuz there are our people…
Self-respect is all that a person has left, at the end of the day. It should be guarded with one’s soul. You lose your self-respect, you lose everything.
