Do you read any?
If you do, do you find them effective? and which are your favorites?
I’ve heard good things about “The Gift of Fear” and “The FreD factor” and will pick them up soon..

Re: Self Help books
Ka.. . Ok no that is not really a Self Help.
On a serous note, I really like 'How to win Friends and influence people' and 'How to stop worrying and start living'. Both by Dale Carnegie. They both actually helped me in my real life.
Re: Self Help books
They arent effective at all...In books, Its written SARI DUNIYA ACHI HAI, but in real its all opposite.I like biographies, they are quit inspiring.
Re: Self Help books
TLK, what's Ka..?
I think it's great to find inspiration in other places--by no means am I saying that self help books are absolutely essential. but if you're saying they're ineffective...which ones have u read?
Re: Self Help books
I often wonder whether the writers of self-help books have their lives "altogether".....if they make the effort to follow their own advice....or if they're all talk for money.
And I know it's off-topic Sara.....but what the hell is up with hairdressers with crazy hair......makeup artists with over-the-top makeup....dentists with bad teeth? I think they all need self-help books. =/
Re: Self Help books
^^ Eye specialist with eye glasses.
From camel to cadillac, Mysteriously Moneyed Men.
Re: Self Help books
I think Self Help books were given bad name by some, but if you read Dr Phil or Suze Orman and end up fixing your relationships or finances, that is self help. Ther eare books available on goal settings, healthy life style, parenting, managing money, writing effective resumes, cooking and all. These are all self help guides.

Fat dieticians/nutritionists? Doctors who smoke?
most famous example I can think of is the author of the "Rules" book who got divorced. I know for sure she must have faced lots of critciism and backlash.
Re: Self Help books
I have so many .... and they have all benefited me.
I recently picked up '7 Habits of Highly Effective People' and 'Zero Limits'. 'Think Rich, Grow Rich' (not about money) is one of the best books I have ever read in addition to 'The Nice Girl Syndrome'.
It isn't just about reading books. If you read these books, you should study it sentence by sentence, apply it to your life, see if it fits and then consciously make adjustments.
Re: Self Help books
I love to read them. I love this one the most 'Be Happy Without Being Perfect: How To Break Free From The Perfection Deception'.
Re: Self Help books
OH yeah! I read a lot of them. Give a good insight on who you are, how you could change, how people possible perceive you. I've used a lot of stuff I've learned in daily life and most especially setting up my school.
Re: Self Help books
I find many self-help books to be like fad diets; dime a dozen and one as useless as the next. I won't pick them up unless someone who's opinion I value tells me to.
My preference is for biographies and inspiring reads that talk about lives of people that have lived exemplary lives....
Re: Self Help books
Nope. Never read them, honestly never will.
Re: Self Help books
Don't sweat the small stuff helped me when I follow its guidelines. More often than not I forget the message and do go off course. But that is OK.
Emotional intelligence is another useful book. Finished half of it - so have only partial emotional intelligence.
Illusions- The Adventures of a reluctant messiah
Not a self help book, but for me it was one of the most influential books.

This. Especially "How to stop worrying...". I've also skimmed, but have yet to read, "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill. There's an interesting story behind that one.
Re: Self Help books
Yes I have read couple of books, like forgiveness,
But they never helped me :(

Mehnaz gave me this book and I absolutely love it.

TLK Bhai suggested me How to stop worrying, it's a good book.

I recently picked up '7 Habits of Highly Effective People'
Husband owns this book. He loved it.
I think I should read it too ..
I read a lot of parenting books. Recently my sister gifted me this one book called 'Nurturing Emaan in Children' by Dr Aisha Hamdan. It is so so helpful!! Don't know if it qualifies as a self help book ...
