Low self-esteem isn’t confined between borders, it is everywhere.

Pakistani society is restricting, especially for women. That doesn’t have anything to do with how confident they may or may not be. It is estimated that 60,000 people attempt to take their lives every year in Ireland. Surely, low self-esteem has a lot to do with this since people here aren’t short of the basics (food, shelter, clothes) as most Pakistanis are.

Confidence develops over time and our life experiences & the environment we live in have a huge effect on our overall personality. My maamu has only one son and he was brought up in a house with no other kids around. He is therefore an extremely shy kid. My khala, on the other hand, has 3 sons and a daughter and they’re all such talkative, lively, confident, intelligent little kids!

I myself have been brought up in three different countries, mostly away from any relatives/family friends. So I am more shy than let’s say my cousins back home. Though I don’t have any low self-esteem problems. As you grow older, start working, start interacting with a tonne of people, this shyness fades away to a great extent… unless you’re living in a depressing, lonely environment.

You seem to bring up confidence alot, but i dont think external confidence and self esteem are actually directly related.

Sometimes low self esteem people can be very loud!
