Shikra’s thread reminded me of something that happened quite a while ago.
Mujhay machar tang ker rahay they & i was trying to make em fly away by waving hands etc. A friend of mine said to me “This is against animal rights, becharoon ko khamkha tang ker rahay hu” in a avery cold, yet concerned voice (Yes he acts like De Niro)
Some time later, a machar was biting him, he slaped & crushed him killing him in an instant. I inquired. “This wasnt against animal rights?” with a proud grin on my face as i m going to win the argument. Without a second of delay, in his same old De Niro style, he said “This was a self defence”

My dad’s old Oxford dictionary still says “Defence”. Defense is rather a new american spell, dictionary.com will still tell u “defence” is a variant of “defense” *chiefly British
