Do you believe segregation of sexes is a healthy practice.
Personally I don’t think so.

Re: Segregation of sexes
I beleive some restriction have to be placed.
Re: Segregation of sexes
I guess it depends on the context. In physical sports... there should be segregation on teams (women competing against other women). Otherwise, it should be optional (like all women colleges)
Re: Segregation of sexes
can you explain in what context you are asking? schools? on buses? shopping mall? restaurants?
anyways, i believe segregation of sexes should occur simply for the reason that it allows both males and females to socially adapt to each other.
also, i don't believe in males only/female only schools. sometimes when students finish school and are out in the real world they may find difficulties socializing with the opposite sex -> as i have stated above.
there arnt many benefits of segregating sexes ....lol AKA sexual apartheid. it would be great if you can explain why you think segregation of sexes is bad
of course some segregation has to be placed as above such as toilets, sports etc as stated above.
Re: Segregation of sexes
too much free mixing up is not good. We start treating em like pals and attraction diminishes … on the other hand too much segregation makes kids and youngster unconfident.
There should be healthy amount of segregation so that youngsters remain interested in opposite genders. Sadly societies which practice extreme segregation and free intermingling of sexes both face the increasing problems like homosexuality crimes like sodomy.
Tribal areas of pakistan , Afganistan and conservative areas of Pakistan are the prime example of first case where people cosider seeing a girl’s eyes as extremely haram thing to do , but consider sodomy (molesting young boys ) as part of their culture.
Islam goes for balanced approach as it allows healthy amount of mixing of genders as it allows females to attend masjid for prayers and sermons. Also going to festivals, celebrating religious ocasions like ramazan eid and marraige is also encouraged :k:
Re: Segregation of sexes
depends on the situation.
like someone mentioned above...sports is an example where segregation is a good idea. Also in instances where the girl is observing the hijab. If segregated she can take off the hijab and feel more at ease.
there should be moderation....too much "mixing" of the sexes is not always a good idea and neither is complete segregation IMO.
Re: Segregation of sexes
Moderation in anything is usually a good idea. There are instances where segregation is good, like gym classes etc. But complete segregation is not good. Code Red, your idea that segregation will promote and retain attraction between the sexes, thats kind of absurd! Men will ALWAYS be attracted to women and women to men (unless of course the person is homosexual). Guys SHOULD treat women as pals because hey, we're people just like the guys. Those who refuse to meet the eyes of a woman or turn away when there is an unrelated female in the room are basically crippled in most societies. There is no good in being extreme here either way.
Agree to all except last paragraph. In mosques and celebration of eid and all there is no interaction between the males and females. Specialy in Pakistan can a teenager girl and boy just be freinds with the consent of their parents. I doubt it. So seeing opposite sex at different occassions is not really interaction. Hence it is not a balanced approach. Anyway this is besides the point because we are not in religion forum and the topic is different.
Agree.
I Hate segregation of sexes period.
Re: Segregation of sexes
in schools, it should not be.
cuz you cant neglect the aspect that in practical life you have to deal with every kind of person, so it is good to go to co-ed. both sexes get to learn each others behavior, their way of living, their perspectives about life, and also (well in most of the cases) they dont turn into total losers instead they try to be more career oriented rather than a pervert.
