Well I have a bit of free time on my hands now that I have given up playing WoW. I was wondering what would be good sources for information on Islam the religion. I prefer sources which are based on the religion and not as much as the history of the rise of the Islamic Civilization.
Christainity has the bible and over a thousand gospels and books which are used as sources of information on the religion. Can anybody list a reference guide for information on Islam? The only sources I know of are:
A. The Quran
B. Texts the relate hadis.
Anything else? Any sources of information on Islamic mythos or mysticism?
Oh yes if you are going to argue about the authenticity of sources of information - bugger off. You want to discuss what is authentic and what isn’t - start a new thread. I simply want sources of information for furthering my education.
If you want to buy, I would recommand get complete Tafsir and Sirah books. It will keep you busy for a long time to come and will always outweigh any other text you read up. Once your done and have enough knowledge and understand things, go off reading various authors and views. I’ll tell you the road is laborious but worth the while. If you intently and with an open heart read the Tafsir and Sirah it could keep you engrossed for 2-3 years.

What would you recommend as a good "idiots guide" to Islam that doesn't insult my intelligence? Something that is a detailed synopsis of the religion and its edicts?
