I know you don't care about facts, as that would mean the reality of the jihadi threat would be fully understood then. It's also strange how Immi Khan also says the Taliban is not a threat but fighting them will lead to end of Pakistan.

There are many reasons for QUICK victories for Pak army. Some of them are:
- Taliban were not well trained.
- Taliban supplies (men and material) ran out.
It is the #2 where the presence of NATO/US in Afghanistan is really really important.
Regardless of the news about US arms being used by Taliban, the REALITY is that Taliban could not make up for their losses by getting men and material from across the border.
There was no strategic help for Taliban other than what they got from WITHIN Pakistan.
Once the local help dried out, Taliban were simply sitting ducks.
So yes there is a HUGE and POSITIVE impact (under the given terrain, and history of porous borders) and that's due to NATO/USA.
If NATO wasn't in Afghanistan, Ruskies / Indians / Iranians would be arming anti-Pakistan forces to the teeth. Thus making it IMPOSSIBLE to defeat Taliban.
However the war is not over.
Taliban are now operating like GANGS in California. You catch some and there are more to replace them. This is all due to the Islamist ideology that Taliban will continue getting fresh impressionable young men.
Think about 7/7 bombing or Glagow airport doctors, and see how a prosperous and law abiding society of UK has to struggle with Islamists gangs.
The same is true for Pak too. And having NATO/US in Afghanistan is the key to success of Pak army.
NATO/US numbers in Afghanistan are very limited compared to Pak army in Swat and FATA.
Pakistan can quickly build its strength to 200,000 +, while NATO will be limited to 1/10 of that and for a much bigger geographical area in Afghanistan.
So for Pak army the best thing is to control FATA/SWAT and then join NATO in AFghanistan to finish off the rats form the region.

The easy part of the conflicct is now nearly over. The hard part now begins - to make sure that Pakistan invests so much into these regions that the people will never ever feel so much as an iota of sympathy for the Taliban, and actively collaborate with the goverment to hunt down and smash them.

On a serious note im sure if God forbid the big bad taliban come back to conquer it again you wont be crying, hell you wont even bat an eye. and thats always been the problem.
It’s amazing how some people flip flop between 2 distinct arguments: 1) being that the taliban is a myth created by the MQM/Hindus and 2) being that taliban cannot be defeated and will come back everywhere.

if captured, there is no way they'll be publicly killed. Question is will they be sentenced to death if captured? the backlash from various aspects of the society could be horrendous as they're still considered to be waging a rightful jihad. I'd say screw all that and just kill them in combat and save us all this trouble.
