PARIS - France plans to bar religious symbols from state schools took a further confusing turn by Wednesday after the education minister said a proposed ban on Muslim veils could also outlaw beards and bandannas if they were judged to be a sign of faith.
Discussing the plan to remove Islamic headscarves from state schools, he told a communist deputy who asked about a pupil with a beard, As soon as it becomes a religious sign and the code is apparent, it would fall under this law.
His comments effectively blocked a compromise sought by the head of Frances Council for the Muslim Faith, Dalil Boubakeur, to let Muslim girls wear bandanas or hairbands if they could not cover their hair, neck and shoulders with Islamic veils.
Pious Muslim men wear beards in obedience to the Prophet Mohammad, who is said to have instructed them to do so.
France has reaped widespread criticism for the ban, which it says will keep religion out of state schools and thus promote respect for all religions. Many commentators abroad cannot fathom this logic and accuse Paris of violating religious freedom.
France’s Muslim community, the largest in Europe, has said it feels targeted by the ban and launched demonstrations against it. Local Christian and Jewish religious leaders have also criticized it. France wants to Ban Beards!
so much for the crys of the people who shouted that france loves the muslims of iraq and france is pro muslim. France is no different than any of the colonial powers they after power and greed they don’t give damn about anything else.
So now france is being asked to allow muslim women to wear bandanas instead of hijab is this some kind of new version of islam how wierd hijab a non non but bandana maybe oui oui talk about contradictions and confusion!
And finally onto beards all i can say is the amount of non muslim french people with goatee beard better watch out and i heard that includes some of the french women too

I didn't know that if you want to promote respect for something you ban it from government and public schools.
So if Pakistan wants to "respect" Christianity, they should ban Christianity practise from all institutions? Where are those who think Saudis are against all other religions, I'm beginning to think that they respect other religions more.

Hmm,I wonder what those few muslims who love the west and the secular culture will now say? It will be intresting to hear their views.

Shokot, Which West are you blaming now? on your right side or left side?
It is French who banned the Hijab not West. Remember the French who were against American war on Islam..yeah the same guys.
This new Hijab ruling proves 2 things to me:
French were not all that upset about the muslims or innocents getting killed in Iraq..they were trying to save their old buddy Saddam. They hate muslims more than any American can even dream yet. but knowing the weasels they are they don't want to take any direct panga...but do mean things like taking people's hijabs and shalwars off instead.
People who blame America for everything really mean to blame West..they use West and America interchangably....Politically, blaming America is better than West. It serves many purposes..e.g. creating the wedge between West...and allow some gullibles like Canada, who BTW think they are in North not West,..fall for it.
Nonetheless, French are wrong in this...they **** in their pants when it comes to facing terrorists but snatch scarfs from heads of 8 year old girls. What cowards. The freedom of speech, religion, dress, life and pursuit of happiness in this life of everyone need to be defended..as long as it does not interfere with same rights of others.
They're acting out of fear, the knowledge that France as they know it is dying.. inshallah in our lifetime we'll se a dramatic change in the ethno-religious structure of France. By around 2025, by some estimates, nearly half the french workforce (40%) will be Muslim... and that figure is set only to grow in the years to come after that.

You want freedom of religion? Good.
Look at Saudi Arabia and Iran where none exists - why aint you complaining about them?

why compare apples with oranges. Saudis or Iranis never said that their country offers "freedom" or any such false claims. France is a "democratic" country boasting of freedom.
Read my post above where I highlighted their own stupid claim that they are doing it to promote "respect" for religions. Damn right respect, you want to respect something then ban it whoaaa.
Instead of educating people about religions and promoting tolerance, they are inviting dislike for the government by placing bans on religions. They are making it more like communism.

and that's an excuse to do anything? If France stopped calling itself a democracy would Muslims get the hell out of the country?
^ UTd i think the point was that not that saudi arabia or Iran were beyond criticism.. Maybe you missed some of the discussion about those places in other threads. But the point was those places are intolerant, we all know it.
But France, as a champion of human rights and what nots, and a democratic country is being very hypocritical when it pursues the same thing albiet under different premise. end result is the same.
not dragging KSA and Iran in this discussion does not absolve France of its lameness.
and fance's lameness does not justify what is going on in other countries like KSA and iran.
I don't even know why the issue of freedom arises. I choose to follow Islam, I choose to wear the hijab. Allah SWT has already said there is no compulsion in religeon.
All these people are confused nobody can stop the spread of Islam, because it is the truth. The truth always comes out in the end.
Let the french try. May Allah bless all the Muslims in France with the strength to fight these bogus rules.
