Re: sects in Islam :

He mentioned there are 7 groups but I just caught him say 6?! The 4 + Jafaris and salafis ... and one more - which one is it?

Interesting though. Who is he btw?

Re: sects in Islam :

He also mentioned Zaidiyyah, like the Ja'fariyyah they are a sub-school within the Shi'ah.

I don't know anything else about them though.

I know a little bit about Shi'ahism by googling but I've got a few questions..

I'm interested in knowing what the doctrines are for both Ja'fariyyah and Zaidiyyah, amongst the Ahl us-Sunnah the Qur'aan is the primary source of religion followed by the Prophetic Sunnah which is today found in the form of narrations (Plural. Ahadith, singular. Hadith) in collections called the Sihah Sittah (the Six Authentics), most Sunni Muslims don't rely directly on these for rulings but have followed scholars (past and present) to intrepret them and then followed the rulings of those scholars, these scholars (Mujtahids) were usually Imams of the four schools of judisperence and their students, I guess the Sunni Mujtahids are similar to the Shi'ah Marji'iyyah.

There are some Sunnis who don't abide by the rulings of one School of Jurisprudence but rather take it upon themselves to decide which rulings are in accordance with the doctrines and which are not, they are known as Salafiyyah, they are the Sunni version of the Akhbariyyah *amongst the *Shi'ah, most Sunnis however follow (Taqleed) one of the four schools of jurisprudence/thought like the Usuli Shi'ah follow their Marji'.

Now I know that the Holy Qur'aan is also the primary source for the Shi'ah and I know they also follow their version of the Sunnah of the Prophet PBUH and the Sunnah of their Imams who they consider the his sucessors but what I would like to know is what are the names of their Sunnah/Ahadith collections/books? I know Al-Kafi is one of them but it would be interesting to know how many there are alotgether and what their names are? Also are the Prophetic narrations found within the same collections as the Imamic *narrations or are they found in seperate collections? Do these collections contain *Ahadith on the methods and rulings such as how to pray Salaah, perform wudhu' etc. or did the Marji' derive these rulings from somewhere else? Do the Shi'ah have chains of narration and Ahadith sciences to distinguish the authentic Ahadith from the weak and fabricated? How do they decide which Ahadith is authentic and which not?

Do the Zaidiyyah *have different sources from the *Ja'fariyyah?

I've seen some* Shi'ah's* quote Ahadith from Sunni sources, how's that work if they consider our Ahadith to be inauthentic due to the nature of our narrators in their eyes?

Re: sects in Islam :

I don't mean to offend anyone, I just want to learn.

Insha Allaah if Allah gives me the brains I would love to one day study Sunni understanding of Islaam from Cairo or Riyadh and then also study the Shi'ah version from Tehran, just so that I know both sides of the fence and I'm not blindly lapping up whatever the local Imam is saying from the pulpit.

May Allaah unite all the sons of Islaam upon Sirat al-Mustaqeem, aameen.

Re: sects in Islam :

yes the zaydis are different from jafari shias mostly in yemen where they are considered actually very close to sunnis in theological matters but very different in political matters
zaydis are historically divided in many sects most of them later became extinct
but generally politically they support a open rebellion against unjust rulers [much like the khawaraj] and are known to take a softer stance on umar[ra] and abu bakr[ra] considering them pious rulers and their caliphates legitimate because of their acceptance by Ali[as]....their views however on political /military opponents of Ali[as] are just as severe as that of 12er shias and IMHO rightly so].....with ascent of 12er shiaism in azerbaijan and iran [and its effect later on india] zaydi shias are confined largely to yemen. To this date I have not found a zaydi islamic centre in north america.....
in the wider perspective IMHO they are the "missing link" b/w shias and sunnis of today

the people called zaydis in pakistan are either sunnis or 12er shias not 5ers or zaydis

Re: sects in Islam :

and sunnis do the same ....truth is in works of shia rijal authentic narraters are mostly those with strong 12er shia credentials not just those who had shia-like inclinations ] ...In sunni rijal works many such narraters who had shia leanings are also considered authentic ....confusion arises when these "proto-shias" narraters are confused with later 12er shias .....

Re: sects in Islam :

good stuff reich.. it would interesting to know the background of the guy though

Re: sects in Islam :

Ok excuse my ignorance but I have no idea what a* "rijal"* is..

Can you tell me the names of all the Shi'ah sources from which Shi'ahs (or their Marji's) derive their religion? Qur'an, Al-Kafi, what else?

Is it true that in Shi'ahism the word "Hadith" is known as "Akhbar" or does that only apply to narrations from the Imams?

One more question, how are Shaykhis different from other 12ers (usuli and akhbari)?

It's so interesting learning about other sects.

Re: sects in Islam :

st,
rijal is the study of the biographies of the hadith narraters …rest of your questions can be answered at www.al-islam.org

ravage , thanks …i agree his background will be interesting to know …esp. their name"takfeer productions "

Re: sects in Islam :

:D i misread that too. its taFkeer productions

Re: sects in Islam :

There are many Ulemas in Pakistan that declare Shias as Kafir. Their followers attack Shias, with bullets, bombs and suicide bombs. Perhaps this guy in the video does not know about that.

Re: sects in Islam :

^^ only 1 very extremist group ..Laskre Jhangvi attacks shias..also christians and ahmedis..rest ..shias and sunnis live side by side in streets and mohallas with no fighting at all....

Re: sects in Islam :

But we need to control them. Don't we?

Re: sects in Islam :

Re: sects in Islam :

Cheers man, I’ll check it out.

Do you know any Shi’ah fatwa sites? Where I can ask them questions and get answers? I’m a bit lazy when it comes to research.

Re: sects in Islam :

They are a minority, of course outsiders take adavantage of them to spread fitnah-fasaad amongst our people, Muslims themselves are no angels and are definately at fault but outsiders ka bhi haath hota hai.

People like that exist in every religion, you just read up on the history between the Catholic and the Protestant churches or the Roman Catholic and Orthodox Churches. I know we don't hear these things much any more because most "Christians" are actually athiest/agnostic and don't believe in their religion let alone fight over it but untill very recently things weren't so good on our doorstep in Ireland with Catholics vs Protestants.

Re: sects in Islam :

try www.al-shia.com or www.sistani.org

it takes sistani a few weeks to reply but he does reply.

Re: sects in Islam :

Das R

You need to preach this to clergy of all sects. They are the one who need to reconcile, its not the common people that have caused this problem.

Re: sects in Islam :

Absolutely, It is the results of Jewish and Christian conspiracies that our Momin Mujahids end up blowing themsleves up to kill and maim the Shias. I tell you it is all because of the Jews and Christians...
