sectarian names...'Salafi'

This was sent to me in my mail…hope no one minds..i chose to post it,as i felt maybe it was important to someone in gupshup to read…

                           BISMILLAHIR REHMANIR RAHEEM

"He (ALLAH) has named you MUSLIMEEN before and in this (QURAN)"
[Soorah Hajj: Ayah 78]

Allah has named us Muslimeen, the singular form of which is Muslim.
Despite open challenges from Jamaat ul Muslimeen no one has still
given proof for their sectarian names.

Among many sectarian names is the name `Salafi'.

Salafis try to give proof for their name by quoting hadiths regarding
the Salaf. We didn't ask for proofs regarding the Salaf but actually
for the name `Salafi'.

Salafis say as they follow the Salaf hence they call themselves
Salafi.

If a person is to follow Prophet Muhammad [Sallallaho Alaihe wasllam]
or his Ashaab, is he to call himself `Muhammadi' or `Ashaabi'?

A person who follows the Salaf should call himself a Muslim, as this
was the name of Salaf not `Salafi'.

The Salaf didn't have any sectarian names.

The Salafis justify their name by claiming that when deviated sects
appeared and bidahs crept into the ummah, it was necessary to
distinguish themselves by some other name amongst the ummah.

Our question to them is:

If bidahs crept into the Salafis, then would they be obliged to
change their name from Salafi to something else?

If the answer is yes, then how long will this creating of names go on?

If the answer is no, then why did you need a new name before when we
already had a beautiful name `Muslim'?

When an Ansar and Mohajir got into a fight due to a joke played by
the Mohajir and each called upon his people to help:

The Ansari said, "Help, O Ansar!"

And the Mohajir said, "Help, O Mohajirs!"

The Prophet [Sallallaho Alaihe wasallam] came out and said, "What is
the matter and who gave this call of the period of Ignorance? "

Then he [Sallallaho Alaihe wasallam] said, "What is the matter with
them?"

So he was told about the stroke of the Mohajir to the Ansari.

The Prophet [Sallallaho Alaihe wasllam] said, "leave this for it is
an evil call''

[Saheeh Bukhari: Volume 4, Book 56, Number 720]

Mohajir and Ansar were names given by Allah, when these beautiful
names became the cause of dispute amongst the Muslimeen, the Prophet
[Sallallaho Alaihe wasallam] termed it as an evil call of the period
of ignorance.

Similarly is the case with names such as: Salafi, Ahle Hadith, Ahle
Sunnah, Ahle Quran, Wahabi or Sunni etc, which seem beautiful in
meaning but have become a source of dissension amongst the Muslimeen,
so these names should be abandoned.

Jamaat ul Muslimeen invites all sects to the name `Muslim' and
requests them to leave all their sectarian names as no sectarian name
how beautiful it might seem can be proved from Quran or Sunnah.

I might agree with the concept of the email but I hate it when people try to criticise someone else to improve their own image.

Why stop at the people who follow the Qur'an and the Sunnah?

What religious right do all groups have to give themselves a name other that what Allah has prescribed upon us all - Muslims?

What about the Shia? The Berelwis? The Sufis?

Perhaps this Jamat-ul-Muslimeen should think a little harder on how the Muslims may unite - and on what they should unite (LailahaIlalla MuhammadarrasoolAllah), and not behind yet another invented name -(Note they have a go at others for naming and yet they have invented one for themselves!?!?).

Why call yourselves "Jamat-ul..." when you can just be Muslims, like they themselves argue for - this is just hypocrisy at its highest form.

More like an attack on following the Qur'an and the Sunnah more than anything else - and a lame one at that.

ditto

I agree it shouldn't be targeted at one group, but the gist of the argument is right when applied to everyone. I was thinking along the same lines some time back when looking at some of the stupid threads where different sects take turns at nit-picking over stupid details with each other.

If not by a sub-name, how else would you like to identify the different schools of thought in any religion?!

^ why would one need to identify his school of thought at least in Islam?

Yes, Osama & I have the same religion!

it doesn't make you Osama's follower. does it?

I do not agree with the argument that different identification means the 'followers' are not united. It's the internal enmity and their lack of self respect for each other that causes the disunity, not the difference in opinion or their identification based on that.

Humans have different ethnicities, different skin color and different languages. We recognize these differences, we talk about these differences but as humanity they are one!

49: 13/14. O mankind, WE have created you from a male and a female; And WE have made you tribes and sub-tribes that you may know one another. Verily, the most honourable among you, in the sight of Allah, is he who is the most righteous among you. Surely, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware.

ahmadjee that justifies nations, not sects. We're all supposed to be Muslims in belief, nothing less.. maybe Believers (Momins) but that's a step higher.

What about a Hanafi Sunni Barelvi Nashqbandi?

Does that get criticised?

asalam al`ykum brother,
may I suggest that you read the following article <http://bakkah.net/articles/splitting.htm> AlhumduLLILAH it’ll clear up your mind on the sectarianisam, if ALLAH wills.
