India 411 & 120-2 beat South Africa 305 & 222 by eight wickets
**Anil Kumble joined Kapil Dev as India’s highest Test wicket-taker and the hosts took the series with a eight-wicket second Test win over South Africa. **
The tourists were bowled out for 222 on the fifth morning, with Kumble’s spin partner Harbhajan Singh taking 7-87.
With 117 needed for victory, Rahul Dravid (47) and Sachin Tendulkar (32) shared an unbroken stand of 60.
Earlier Jacques Kallis added just three to his overnight 52, while Zander de Bruyn made an unbeaten 32.
The series victory reversed the result from South Africa’s last tour and was some consolation after the defeat at home to Australia earlier this month.
Kumble, who had earlier dismissed Thami Tsolekile, grabbed his 434th wicket when last man Ntini was caught.
But it was Harbhajan who shouldered the bulk of the work, striking when South Africa had added just 11 to their overnight 172-5 when Kallis was deceived in the air presented a return catch.
Shaun Pollock had time to become only the fifth player in Test history to reach 3,000 runs as well as 300 wickets, but had made six when he fell to a disputed decision.
Umpire Daryl Harper gave him out caught at short leg but replays showed the ball did not hit the bat nor was the catch by Gautam Gambhir taken cleanly.
Pollock joined an elite list containing Kapil Dev, Pakistan’s Imran Khan, New Zealander Richard Hadlee and Ian Botham of England.
Harbhajan had success again in the same over, having Justin Ontong caught behind for a duck as he attempted to sweep.
India lost Virender Sehwag - caught at slip for 10 - and Gambhir lbw to Jaques Rudolph for 26.
But without a front-line spinner, South Africa were able only to delay the inevitable, Tendulkar showing his contempt for Justin Ontong’s leg-spin by lofting him for six.

finally india got it right against the s.africa...They must be feeling satisfacted about the result..wht else..Proteas off course tried to slow down the game and hang around, but both the spinners were too much for them..
On the other hand, now the indians can look forward to spank the hell out of the bangla tigers....don't understnad the logic behind sending a full strength team to bangla..why don't experiment with the bench strength...anyway's nice to laxman & kumble finally out of the one day side..
