ahmadjee bhaijaan, I've a simple rule of life. Never forget where you came from. when I read the current affairs of Pakistan and what's going on there I tell myself, this could be happening to me and the only reason it's not happening to me is because I'm not there. And if it's not happening to me then I'm in damn good shape.
all these "rights" bakwas can never end. you can beat it to death, nitpick all the invisible or fine points and prove one way or the other. but the cold harsh reality hits you only when you are living life on the streets of karachi or islamabad in present days where the actual RIGHT that is being violated is YOUR RIGHT TO LIVE.
now all that other issues about right to practice religion or gays' rights or women getting paid less than men etc etc are well and dandy and keep a healthy debate going in the society. it's this debate that keeps a society on its finer and corrective self and this will never end. there will always be "rights" violated and there will always be culprits in any given society. when you're talking about hundreds of millions of people you're gonna have examples of every kind but the very basic scale to measure your day to day life is very simple. do I feel safe driving to and from work every day? do I have a SENSE OF PROTECTION if someone breaks into my house or if I feel threatened elsewhere? can I continue to live my life uninterrupted if I don't break any law? Living in US, answer to ALL these questions is YES but a dark NO if living in Pakistan. so there you have it. while it's good and healthy to debate gays' rights and minority issues etc at the same time NEVER forget what you DO have.
Rights in Pakistan compared to rights in America. Apples and oranges. Its like saying people in Pakistan should not protest against current government because past were even worse. Media should not criticize Musharraff because past leaders did not help expand independent media.
It is also no secret that this was a lot worse in 60’s than it is now. This does not mean that one should forget about it but it only means that it shows in US things DO get better. Look at how Jews were in 60’s and where they are now. The point is not about having achieved something. It’s rather about being on the right path and having the right spirit.
Although I do wish I could say the same thing about current administration but likes of kaleem voted in the idiot again and again so yeh, I do think this administration has single-handedly put US behind some decades.
it's the pakistanis who made it third world country , whereas it's the americans in U.S who made it a developed one , it's the people / citizens who made a country prosper
1st world countries were European and North American countries plus Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Argentina and Brazil...
2nd world countries were mostly Eastern European, Central Asian, Russia and former USSR countries
its probably not the most appropriate analogy but this is what comes to mind.
being an average joe in pakistan and a practising muslim is like being raped on daily basis.
in most western countries its like being harrassed and bullied on daily basis.
while i admit rape and harrassment are different but you still cant be grateful for being harrassed.and if you are human you would probably dream for a better world.
