Is any seafood permissable? a common question one may ask or think about.
the ruling>>>>>
From seafood, only fish is made Halaal for us. Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, 'Two carions are made Halaal for us; Fish and locust. ’ (Mishkaat vol.2 pg.361).
Fish is classified as a Vertebra. Shrimps and lobsters are not vertebras, hence, not permissible.
Some Ulama are of the opinion that shrimps, etc. are fish, therefore,
permissible. Due to the differences of opinion, it is best to adopt Taqwa
and abstain from eating shrimps, etc. but they cannot be regarded as swine meat which is expressly Haraam.
and Allah Ta’ala Knows Best
Mufti Ebrahim Desai:
According to the Hanbaliy and Shafi’ee scholars, all living creatures that live in the sea are halal, whether they are in the form of a fish or not. (Fiqh alal Madhaahib al-Arbaa). Based on this, oyster, oyster extract, shrimp, lobster and shark are all halal and permissible.
According to the Maliki scholars, every living creature of the sea is halal except eel. (Ibid) Hence, oyster, oyster extract, shrimp, lobster and shark are halal and permissible.
According to the Hanafi scholars, the only living creatures of the sea that are permissible are those that are in the form of a fish with an exception of the hagfish and eel. (Ibid). (these 2 even though they are not in the form of a fish they will be permissible to consume).
Hence, according to the Hanafi scholars, it will not be permissible to eat oyster, oyster extract, shrimp and lobsters. It will be permissible to consume shark as it is in the form of a fish.
And Allah Ta’ala Knows Best
Didn’t we had this discussion a while ago, in which someone copy pasted the background of the issue. As far as I remember, the issue was “fish with scales (bones)”. It was said that this rule is not from Quran or hadith, but a saying of Hazrat Ali
where he said only fish with scales is permitted. Hence any fish or sea creature without scales (bones) is not halaal. However, prawns and shrimp are considered makrooh (not halaal and not haraam).
[5:96] Lawful to you is the game of the sea and its food, a provision for you and for the travellers, and the game of the land is forbidden to you so long as you are on pilgrimage, and be careful of (your duty to) Allah, to Whom you shall be gathered.
PakistaniAbroad: And that's the bottom line.. no mention of scale or no scale.... no creating sub classes like makrooh.. it's either lawful or unlawful with Allah in terms of commands to the believers and submiters at large.
I mentioned in my response that the exact ruling for “fish with scales” is NOT found in Quran. Now you can stop right there and decide its what it is. Most muslims, however, look at the life of the Prophet Muhammad :saw: and his companions
as a role model to understand how are we to implement the rules mentioned in the Quran.
Obviously, as you have painstakenly posted again and again in many threads in this forum, you have a severe problem with that approach. And that is your approach (relying ONLY on Quran) towards this and other rulings and ofcourse you are free to do and preach whatever you find appropriate. However lets not presume that most muslims agree, or even condone, your way of thinking. Hence both sides of the ruling are provided above. Those who wish to follow yours, fine. Those who don’t, fine too. You don’t need a certificate from anyone about the veracity of your approach, nor do you need to constantly criticize who don’t agree to yours.
Most discussions on the finer points of Islamic fiqha are better left to just stating your opinion, and the reasons behind it, and leaving it at that for the readers to make up their minds. There is no point in engaging in protracted discussions, again and again, about who we feel is right and who we feel is wrong.
This is not just for you, but to others too, who read the post and are just itching to counter it (like always) with their own reasons for why they think you are wrong.
if Allah says in the Quran that all seafood is halal then how can the scholars question that and say some of it is not? this is not comment guys it's just a question.
Faisal so do you disagree with the verse PA posted from Quran?
Doesn't Quran say that Muhammed(pbuh) cannot make unlawful what is made lawful by Allah?
