Sea bass/ basa?? Recipe?

What’s the difference between two.. I dun like to eat fish due to smell but I once had a taste of fish at someones house that didn’t taste fishy at all and upon inquiring I was told that it’s basa..my husband insisted they meant sea bass..is there a difference or not??

So anyway we got the sea bass and now I need a recipe..baked or grilled..please share the marinade recipe for the best tasting fish!!!

Thanks

Re: Sea bass/ basa?? Recipe?

Haven't got any seabass recipes I'ma fraid- sorry! there'll be some on the net if you do a search I'm sure.

As for Basa and Seabass- they are 2 different types of fish. Basa is from vietnam and tastes very mild- however- it has been banned in europe and looks to be going that way in UK if not already due to the conditions in whch it is farmed. I read up on it and haven't touched it since.

Re: Sea bass/ basa?? Recipe?

Yes, I have the same problem I don't like fishy smelling fish so I like sea basa because it is a bland fish. Nope- if the perosn told you they had basa it is basa and not sea bass as 2 different types of fish. Basa- It doesn't smell fishy. Haven't tried sea bass but would imagine that it has a certain fish taste as it is used in restaurants alot-the ones I have been. I have never seen sea basa served in resturants though probably because it is bland. You can marinate it any way you do normal grilled fish e.g. oil, salt, black pepper and your pick of spices e.g. chilli powder, tumeric etc. T The great thing about it because bland it soaks up any flavour you give it. The only thing I suggest is that this fish is very delicate to other fish when cooking in comparison and flakes quite easily so either don't stir it too much on stove or cook in oven.

Re: Sea bass/ basa?? Recipe?

thanks girls.. so yes we got the sea bass, rubbed it with lemon, garlic, and vinegar and had it in the refrigerator for a few hours.. washed it with cold water and then marinated it with the regular spices (i dunno since my husband did and I wasnt around) baked it in the oven and it was YUMMY.. I never eat fish due to the fishy smell to it but this was the first one I ever had where I couldnt stop eating!!! it tasted like chicken, just better!!!!

and yep it was flaking away after a few mins in the oven.. very delicated!!! well at least now I like some kind of a fish!!! :-)

Gem the Great

That's great to hear. Why did you put vinegar just out of curiosity though? I only tend to add only lemon juice rather then lemon juice and vinegar to fish and that tends to kill the smell of fish quite a bit. Maybe try without vinegar the next time?

I usually add vinegar to meat/chicken only to tenderise and kill smell.

msis... hehe I dont know.. we wanted to get rid of the smell so we did it all!!!! We will try wihout vinegar too!
